Gasoline prices continue to set records across the country with the national average price at a new high of $4.066, $1.02 more than one year ago.

Diesel is also posting a record price at $4.796, $1.90 more than one year ago.

Regular self-serve gasoline is now selling for more than $4 in 27 states and the District of Columbia.

The national average price for regular gasoline has increased almost 16 percent since the first of the year and more than 33 percent since the same time last year.

Mid-grade gasoline now sells for an average national price of $4.317 and premium sells for $4.471 a gallon.

California continues to suffer from the highest average gasoline prices in the country at $4.564. Missouri has the lowest statewide average gasoline price at $3.843.

The cheapest gallon of gasoline on sale anywhere in the U.S. is found in Oklahoma City for $3.67.

California: The average price of gasoline in California has climbed 65 cents in the last month and is now 50 cents a gallon more than the national average.

A second week of price increases has pushed the statewide average above $4.50 a gallon setting local price records across the the state. Prices are now almost $1.30 per gallon higher than a year ago.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline jumped over the $4.50 mark in San Diego County this week, rising to $4.588, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price of regular is $4.579 in Los Angeles, $4.573 in San Francisco and $4.651 in Santa Barbara.

"California is the only state in the U.S. right now that is experiencing this painful level of price increases, and oil industry analysts say it is almost totally driven by fund manager investment in California wholesale gasoline futures," Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said.

The lowest price spotted in California is in Springville at $4.15 per gallon at a gas station operated by the Tule River Indian Tribe, which does not have to collect state taxes on the fuel.

Texas: The price of a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline set records across Texas as prices continued as rise toward $4 per gallon.

Regular self-serve averaged $3.93 per gallon, 8 cents more than last week, according to the weekly AAA Texas gas price survey.

The average price in Houston jumped by more than 8 cents, to almost $3.92 per gallon.

"Record-high crude prices are the primary reason motorists are seeing almost daily increases," said AAA Texas spokeswoman Rose Rougeau. "Crude oil surged above $136 a barrel this week."

The state's most expensive regular gasoline is found in Dallas, where the average price rose 7 cents this week to $3.94 per gallon.

The cheapest gas in Texas is on sale in Amarillo, where the price rose 6 cents to $3.89 per gallon.

South Carolina: Statewide average gas prices are now $3.858 gallon.

Charleston prices remained stable at $3.863 a gallon while Columbia's average price is $3.859. Myrtle Beach, with historically the highest average gas prices in the state, showed an average price of $3.895 a gallon.

New Mexico: Retail gasoline prices in New Mexico are continuing to climb to record averages, according to AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch.

In New Mexico, the current average is an all-time high at $ 3.96 a gallon. That's up about six cents since last week.

"Motorists are paying a wide range for gasoline. California has the most expensive fuel at $4.56 a gallon, while Missouri is the least expensive at $3.83. There's also a large difference in states on diesel fuel, Hawaii is the highest at $5.20 and Missouri once again comes in the lowest at $4.60 a gallon," said AAA New Mexico spokesman Dan Ronan.

The most expensive gas in New Mexico is in Santa Fe at $3.99 a gallon. Gas prices earlier this week in Santa Fe briefly reached $4.00 a gallon. The state's cheapest gas is in Albuquerque at $3.86 a gallon.

Florida: The average price of regular gasoline climbed to $4.028, almost $1.02 higher than one year ago.

Regular gasoline sells for an average price of $4.048 in Daytona Beach, $4.120 in Miami and $3.942 in Orlando.
