Healthy and Blue |

By Henry J. Fishman, M.D. December 8, 2005
Eat some blueberries. These sweet, tart and naturally blue treats contain more healthy antioxidants than just about any other food. Antioxidants, you will recall, soak up toxins in your body called free radicals which can damage cells in your body and lead to heart disease and cancer. Not only can blueberries help prevent heart trouble and cancer, they can make you smarter too. Elderly rats fed blueberries perked up and did better than other rats with tests like walking through a maze and balancing. Blueberries in their diet improved the memories of the older rats. Obviously you are not a rat but blueberries are still good for you. More blueberries in a diet can help improve the memory of older people. They contain very few calories and may help prevent urinary tract infections as well. Report Your Experience
