Nurse Charged With Stealing Pain Killers From Nursing Home Patients

June 14, 2004
Attorney General Mike Cox announced today charges against a Howell nursing home nurse supervisor of stealing prescription pain killers from hospice patients. Swartz Creek resident Jeffrey Joseph Wolos, 32, was arraigned Wednesday, June 9 in 53 District Court in Howell. A preliminary conference is scheduled for Tuesday.

"It is vitally important that we stand ready to protect our sick and infirm citizens," Cox said. "When a person entrusted with caring for others criminally violates that trust, he or she will face the full force of the law."

The charges arise from a chain of events at Medilodge nursing home in Howell culminating on December 8, 2003. Attorney General prosecutors intend to show that Wolos tampered with and stole patients’ pain-relief medications and delivery systems.

Wolos faces three charges: one count of knowingly possessing a schedule II narcotic drug, a four-year felony; larceny by stealing prescription medication, a four-year felony; and physical abuse or harmful neglect of a patient by removing or diminishing the strength and content of prescribed medications for control of chronic pain, a one-year misdemeanor.
