Tammy of Toledo writes (7/6/01):
According to their catalog, the shipping map shows the country divided and the amount of estimated ground shipping days (standard UPS ground service). I live in the area that takes an estimated 6-8 business days. I sent my invitations and had the RSVPs due immediately because I know it takes a while for shipping.
My daughter's birthday party is on Saturday, July 21st and I placed a phone call to order my party supplies on July 3rd. One of the first pieces of imformation the sales clerk requests is the date of the party. She then proceeded to take my order. At the end of the order, she informs me that my shipment is not expected to arrived until July 20-24 and can not guarantee the shipments arrival until July 24. I had allowed 12 business days (excluding the holiday) and she continued to inform me that it was not possible to guarantee the shipment; therefore, she charged me an additional $5.50 on top of the standard $10.95 to guarantee the arrival of my package in time for the party.
I explained to the clerk that I did not understand why I was being billed the additional shipping when I provided an additional 4 business days on top of the maximum shipping days. She would not explain and proceeded with my order. I asked to speak with a manager and she did not connect me.
What makes me so angry is this happened to me a couple of years ago when I placed an order. The company automatically asks for the party date before taking the order so that they can tack on the additional premium shipping charges for you to receive your package in time for the party. I have spoken with others who have ordered from this company and they had the same problem. I believe if someone placed an order a month in advance, they would still charge the additional shipping.
