Iams Pet Foods

cherise of pitman, NJ August 11, 2009

Iams proactive puppy is making my 4 month old golden have diarrhea non stop. She is loosing energy. I took her to the vet because I thought there was seriously something wrong after 170.00 of testing, medicine and of course not finding anything wrong they sent me home with bland diet instructions. Every time I tried to re- introduce food she was up all night with diarrhea.

Ramona of Murfreesboro, TN July 21, 2009

I have a ten month old havanese mix puppy and have been feeding her Iams Proactive Puppy since I got her...the breeder recommended it at the time. Last weekend, I kept my daughter's terrier mix and fed both dogs from a new bag of food that I had purchased at Walmart. I spent the entire weekend cleaning up after them. Normally, my daughter's dog is very well potty trained. I awoke on Saturday morning to a living room full of poop and vomit. Both dogs were throwing up and had severe diarrhea. I thought at first that it may have been viral, but when my daughter's dog went home, he got better for a few days...then she got a new bag of Iams adult food from Walmart. Her dog immediately got sick again.

I got online and started researching the food and found that other are having the same issues. I immediately went to the pet store and bought an organic dog food. Both dogs immediately got better. I sent Iams an email and they said they had not had any reports of problems with the food. I even sent a link to this site to show that they have had recent problems with the food. It seems that most was purchased at Walmart as well.

My chow/lab mix dog has been sick with severe diarreah and vomiting since eating from the latest bag of Iams mini chunks (the green bag) purchased from walmart. He had a similar incident a year ago and we took him to the vet and had an iv tests etc and he had no underlying health problems. I did throw away that batch of Iams and get a new bag. Since this latest event, it was from a new bag of food. I believe that it is tainted in some way. Save yourself vet bills and pain and suffering for your pet and don't buy Iams dog food!

As usual, I bought my dog Iams Proactive, and a few days later, he started having bloody loose stools, refuses to eat his supper, vomits, an is very lathargic. My dog is very active and enjoys eating...not anymore. I know that it is Iams dog food.

My Dogs ran out of their normal pet food over the course of the weekend, so in order to make sure the dogs had something to eat I ran by Wal-Mart to try and purchase something that would hold them over for the weekend. I got a bag of the IAMS proactive puppy formula, within 24hours both dogs had excessive diarrhea one even became a bit lethargic, Thank God on monday I was able to supply them w/ their normal brand of feed and so far they both seem to be doing ALOT better. I have been feeding my puppy Nutro Max Puppy since she we got her in January. Recently I recieved a coupon for Iams Proactive Health Puppy and thought I'd give it a try. It has been one week since I started her on it. Two days ago I went to let her out of her crate and found a bunch of runny poop all over. I thought it was just a tummy bug so I called the vet and she said to put her on a bland diet for the rest of the day. The rest of the day she seemed to be fine so the next day I gave her Iams again.

Well, today once again there was runny poop all over in her crate! This just seemed to strange for her because she has been house and crate trained since she was two months old. She also does not like her crate messy so I know she would not poop in there unless something was bothering her.

I recently purchased a bag of Iams adult +1 year for my two dogs. The bag was purchased June 14th. Since then my dogs have exhibited runny eyes, horrible body odor, lethargy and horrible dirrahea. They have both had accidents in my house; something that they never do. After reading the flood of responses about this dog food I am disgusted that this dog food has not been recalled!

Christine of Spring Park, MN June 24, 2009

I had 3 cats that I had been feeding Iams dry food for years. Lately as in the last 4 months the orange bag. Since January my oldest cat a 15 yr old developed runny diarrhea but did not act sick. He always had impeccable litter box habits. I had him thoroughly checked by my vet who could find nothing wrong. He did not appear sick but yes did appear to be losing some weight. One day I just found him laying dead on the floor. I had him to the vet over and over but they couldn`t find anything wrong.

Now one of the other cats a 2 year old Bengal has developed a strange twitching in his back that makes him pull his hair out and run like mad for no reason. Off to the vet again. They suggested a food allergy and I have switched my 2 remaining cats to Natural Balance Duck and Pea.

Well I made the switch over a weeks time and today they have been eating the new food only for 2 days. I am seeing a marked improvement in the Bengals behavior. He is much less manic and frantic and isnt trying to pull his hair out anymore.

I wrote to Iams last week to ask them if something had changed in their food recently and they sent me and email back saying they are very concerned and want me to call them. I am going to call them but am giving the food switch a few more days so I can let them know as soon as I quit feeding their food, everything improved. Too bad I didnt know sooner as my 15 year old always healthy cat would probably still be around.

I think something is going on and I believe the big companies know about it but arent doing anything just yet maybe hoping the problem will go away?

Donna of Fort Stewart, GA June 20, 2009

My husband and I just PCSed to Fort Stewart, GA. I had been feeding my dog IAMS dog food for about 3 months and everything has been fine until we moved here to GA. from Texas and I bought a small bag of IAMS proactive health mini chunks. The last several days she has had diarrea all over the house. She is up to date on all shots and has been very healthy until I opened that new bag of dog food. I was was suspiscious of the food because that is pretty much all she has ingested to cause such a problem, and she is an indoor dog that doesn't have as easy access to catching other viral and bacterial things. I decided to do some online looking about diarrhea in dogs and came across this website and read all the stories that are identical to mine, not to mention the time frame of all of these, I don't feel these are a coincidence, I know its the IAMS!

jada of butler, PA June 16, 2009

I purchased Iams ProActive weight control dry dog food from Sam's Club June 2009, My dogs are all having soft stool and accidents in the house. All seven of them are having a hard time lifting up themselves in the morning. their joints are all stiff, i took the first one and she tested positive for lymes disease she went on antibiotic and died within 2 weeks, the vet said it was highly unlikely that she would die from lymes disease, some other infection might have been there we didnt detect. the second dog couldnt stand up,we took her to the vet and she tested negative for lymes disease. the third dog the very next day was unable to get her rear off the floor.

took her to the vet. the vet said it is nearly impossible for all of them to have lymes disease. they are running blood test, so far it shows no infection. he told me to save the dog food in the freezer and the bag.
