Alan of Grosse Pointe Park, MI June 14, 2009 We were feeding our cat IAMS dry weight control/hairball control food in the turquoise bag. He pooped on the bathroom rug--fairly unusual and then puked a considerable amount over the next few days. He kept spreading the food farther and farther from his bowl rather than eating it. He's lost about 20% of his body weight. Finally, we tried canned food and he gobbled it up. Tom of grand ledge, MI June 6, 2009 We have been feeding our 3 dogs Iams proactive for 6 years now. One week ago we bought a 48 lb bag of the Iams at Pet Smart,a day later one dog had Diarrhea so bad,he was not interested in doing anything but lying around, and he is usally very active.Day 3 he started throwing up every 5mins.We took him to the Vet,had Blood work, X-rays done everything came back Normal. He also became very dehydrated. He is now at the Vet Hospital with an IV in him.We are so heart broken, feel so helpless. Now our other 2 dogs are having the same thing going on.So we know it has to be from the Iams dog food.NO MORE IAMS FOR MY BABYS.I pray for animal's owners that have to go through this. Ly of Kailua Kona, HI June 1, 2009 My Lab has eaten Iams for 8 years with no problem. I bought a new 40 lb bag of Proactive Minichunks at Walmart 3 days ago to share with my Shih Tzu. Both dogs then had diarrhea and continue to have it. My lab has been listless and has eaten very little since. My Shih Tzu vomits soon after he eats the food. I know it is the Iams as this started with the new bag. I also have a Silky Terrier that eats a special diet dog food and he has ha no problem. I hope Consumer Reports checks on this soon as I noticed many of the stores, including WalMart and Petco have Iams on sale today. I hope to take the bag back to WalMart today John of Fremont, CA May 31, 2009 We bought a bag of Iams mini chunk dog food at Wal-Mart and fed it to our two pugs. Within hours both were suffering from the worst diarrhea that we've ever seen. Two days later, they are still feverish and listless with loose stools. We only fed the Iams for two meals and have returned to Solid Gold. These dogs have always eaten anything without problem: Pedigree, Nutro, or Solid Gold. I believe there is a problem with the Iams food we bought. J of Walpole, MA May 27, 2009 2 year old dog started to shy away from newly purchased box of IAMS dog treats (green box) and soon became seriously ill vomiting and bloody BM. I've spent the last two days in animal hospital emergency room and vet office. All tests came back negative for parasites and gastric problems. I will be making a call to IAMS and the FDA this evening. I am hoping someone will be willing to run tests for possible contamination. My poor dog almost died. Kenn of Germantown, WI May 21, 2009 We have a black lab mix that has been on Iams dry dog food all his life 11 years. On March 12th 2009 he dog was trembling and lying around, he had no interest in normal activities and his appetite was reduced. He was vomiting after eating. We took him to the emergency vet in Wisconsin they felt that he needed a MRI and we were referred to an animal emergency hospital in Illinois. On March 13th we took him there. We had to leave him there for 3 days while they did multiple tests and put him on intravenous liquids. An X-ray was done and we were told he had a mass in his stomach, which lead to an ultra sound only to find nothing. We took him home and started feeding him Iams canned food instead of his normal dry Iams food. He seemed to be doing better, so we weaned him off the canned food and put him back on his dry Iams food. Then on May 3rd we had to take him back to the emergency vet. Again blood tests, urine tests, intravenous liquids, ultra sound and X-rays were done. All the tests came out good. So on the 4th of May we took him home and started him on homemade meal of chicken and rice for about 1 week then we integrated Eukanuba for sensitive stomachs and he has been doing well so far. We believe that the Iams food was bad and caused the problem. His energy has increased and he seems to be getting back to his normal self. All this cost in excess of 2,000.00. I wish we still had the bag from his dry dog food so could have given you the lot number. We will preserve some in case Iams wants to test it; the rest is going in the garbage. I wish I had done research sooner and found this web site with others that had similar issues; maybe our dog wouldn’t have had to endure the pain and suffering. I realize that Eukanuba and Iams are made by the same company, I just hope that we don’t encounter this again. Cathie of South Bend, IN May 11, 2009 all of my dog got bloody diarea sent food to be tested and found out I use lamb and rice But there were fish bones that hadn't been ground small enough. It was tearing them up They say its no big deal There is no way I got the only 3 bags that were bad! I know they get more then 3 bags out of a batch.. They would not recall I said there could be people out there with sick dogs that have no clue its the food Valerie of Coppell, TX April 24, 2009 I've been feeding my two dogs IAMS Weight Control (small chunks) for the last year and a half. The last two weeks have been interesting. I've come home to vomit and accidents all over the house. As my dogs are pretty well behaved, this seemed odd. Yesterday there was no doubt that the problem was the food. It took them a while to eat their food, and both threw it up within an hour. We found the food hadn't even digested, what was thrown up was whole chunks, as if their tummies said "No thanks!". After reading all of the common complaints here, I think this is something worth the FDA looking in to. Thank you.
