Who likes cleaning out a litter box? No one we know, so it seemed like a great idea when LitterMaid came up with a self-cleaning box. Only trouble is, it doesn't seem to work very well. Despite that, even the most ravenously dissatisfied customers keep coming back like cats to catnip, buying one derelict pooper scooper after another.

A few of the more recent complaints ...

James of Saint Louis MO (03/27/09)
I've had two littermaids over the past 6+ years. First one my ex took with her but it managed to keep up with 3 cats for the longest time, never had a problem. Second one I bought used a year ago for my maltese dog and I've been very happy with it. I see a lot of complaints about them on here but I've never had a problem, I recommend them to my friends and family.

The Littermaid Elite does not work the tray fills up in 1 1/2 days and at 21.00 for 18 of them it's very expensive not to mention the price of special litter It misses half the crap it needs to pick up, runs when the cat hasn't been near it and clogs up all the time I hate it  It is more work than convenience

With the litter and filters I've spent over 200 dollars

Mike of Prestonsburg KY (03/23/09)
I purchased a Littermaid LM500 litter box, and two days after using it, the wire came lose and the raking element became stuck. The online retailer I purchased it from said to have the company replace it per Magnus & Moss Legislature Act of 1975. I called Littermaid and they said to send it back to the store. I stated it was an online purchase and per Magnus & Moss Legislature Act of 1975 that they are responsible for it. The company still said I had to return it to the store I purchased it from per company policy.

I have owned a LitterMaid and a LitterMaid Mega Elite. After the first one burned out within a year, the company was kind enough to send me the bigger one because I have multiple cats. Not many comments have been related to whether they purchased the smalled ones or the bigger ones made for multiple cats. Yes, it does not scoop perfect but, hey, it saves me from scooping several times a day. I don't use the expensive litter or the litter they tell me and mine has just died after 2 years. It hangs up, at times, I clean it, and it keeps going. I am ready to buy another. Maybe it's the litter. I do confess that I don't clean it as well as I should (take it apart, clean and spray it with Pam, etc) but I have had great success. Even when I had to deal with their customer service.

Have two Litter Maids, as I have four cats. The rake does not remove the Urine, I have to scoop at least three times a day. Does not always clean the feces out. The rake also takes much of the good litter into the receptacle. Most of the time the replacement receptacles are damaged, almost impossible to install them. At times use tape to keep them secure. These two Litter Maids are a waste of time. The receptables are made in China, Maybe they should start the production in the USA.
