None of the complaints about Nutro have ever been verified. There is nothing wrong with Nutro Dog Food. I've used it for years with my 5 dogs, and so are many of our adopters, with excellent results. These unfortunate people who have lost their pets, lost them do to illnesses not related to the dog food.

I was feeding my cats Nutro and 2 got sick. After switching the dry food but mixing the Nutro to get them use to a different brand I finally stopped feeding the dry Nutro, and still had a few cans left which they also ate. I decided to not feed anymore Nutro, one cat got better but the other cat I had to take to the vet. She was diagnosed with Kidney failure. Strange thing was that she was just at the vet a few months back and she was healthy? Her kidneys were fine before she ate the Nutro. She ended up passing away.

I am so angry because we lost her and a year ago we lost 2 kitties to the tainted food problem of 2007 and kidney failure! I do not trust anyone anymore. I lost my best friends and they never did anything but give so much love to me and my kids. They were the only ones there for us. Why would the pet food companies kill them? I hope God does something about this.

My dog suffered seizures from eating their Nutro Natural Weight Management dog food. No one suspected the dog food and this has cost me big in vet bills and prescriptions (phenobarbitol and potassium bromide). Not to mention that we do not know the long time effect that this will have on her.

Lisa of Albuquerque, NM October 17, 2008

Our 4 year old dog is dying. She started a few months ago with loss of energy. When her back legs started collapsing on walks we took her to the vet who ran a number of lab tests. All her levels were bad. The day after the vet visit I realized it must be her Nutro large breed dog food. This site confirmed my suspicions. We immediately stopped feeding her Nutro, but it's been over a week since she has eaten anything on her own. I've tried everything but she just spits it out. We are now putting peanut butter in her mouth for some nutrition. If she has a bm, it is loose. The vet gave her antibiotics for her kidneys. She vomitted daily while on these. I hoped her appetite would return after finishing her medicine; it hasn't. If she doesn't start eating soon she will starve to death. I don't want to put her down, but I don't want her to suffer. I keep hoping for a miracle.

My Boston terrier died yesterday after a progressive decline in health. He had been on a raw diet until October of last year. He lost weight at first then he lost interest in his favorite toys, and playing, going on walks or car rides. He was an alpha male in the house and turned into a weak unsure dog.He started having some small seizures in July and back and forth visits to the vet with no explanation, I could kick myself that it did not realize it could be the dog food. recently he began drinking water excessively and urinating in the house. He never did this. He had loose bloody stool last week so I gave him parvoguard for this and Tripsy for his kidneys.

Early Tuesday(Oct 14) morning he had Grand Mal epileptic seizures. This was the most painful thing I've ever had to see. He regained conscience once then had several more cluster seizures. Even if I'd got him to emergency at 4 AM he'd never of made it. His heart could not take any more.I made him comfortable but I knew he'd suffered brain damage after the first cluster seizure and I have to say good-bye to my beautiful Boston Dooley.I stumbled upon this sit and now I see things through new eyes. here are known reasons for these seizures There's got to be way to stop this now

the result is the loss of our faithful companion. He was only 7-1/2 years old

Brandi of Abington, PA October 15, 2008

Brandi of Abington PA (10/15/08)
Our dog had been throwing up for about a month until we finally realized it was the food after seeing on the news that the nutro canned food was being recalled. Although our dog eats the dry food, it must be contaminated as well. At first we thought that the throwing up was due to NSAID's that we had to put him on for arthritis, but after we stopped them for a week and he was still throwing up we switched his food to boiled chicken and rice. The vomiting stopped so we gave him his Nutro dry food again and the vomiting started up again. The vet was no help, and we only realized it when we heard about the recall of the wet food and did a web search and found this site (and others) that it must be nutro dry food. He ate the healthy joints with glucosamine kind. I have contacted Nutro, let my vet know about it and the FDA. Hopefully someone investigates this soon.
