Alethea of Columbia, SC February 18, 2007

Alethea of Columbia SC (02/18/07)

On February 17, 2007, I was in Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia, GA. I went into The Pet Company store and looked at the puppies they had for sale. I was shocked to see the conditions the puppies were living in. One puppy's cage floor was covered in feces. He couldn't lay down anywhere without being in it. Some of them were very skinny and lethargic. Another puppy was so hungry, she was eating her own feces. That's disgusting. I have never seen anything so inhumane as The Pet Company store.

I was in the Pet Company buying a dog with my son. The place reeked of foul odors and the dog cages were filthy with dog feces all over some of the cages (it was everywhere and we did mention it to the staff). The dogs had to sit in their urine and I did not see water in any of the cages for them to drink. There were two or more dogs in some of the cages. Some of the dogs looked sickly and pathetic. We bought a dog and had to return it because after we got home he was vomiting and kept having bloody diarrhea. He was a very nice dog and it was very sad to have to return him after a day. I feel sad to think what might happen to him now.

Audrey of Lithia Springs, GA March 29, 2006

Audrey of Lithia Springs GA (03/29/06)
I am an employee at a local Pet Company store. As many have already heard we have had an outbreak of Giardia as well as Coccidia. I will be honest the problem lies not within the store employees but with our superiors. The amount of authority and power we have to treat this outbreak is limited. Many employees are frustrated and have quit because they are tired of being so under paid and treated like they mean nothing and/or they do not want to support Mary, our District Manager, who has encouraged us to re-use syringes (don't dare spend any more money). I, as well as many other store employees, were never aware or this outbreak untill recently. Our superiors on the other hand have known since January.

Some employees remain at the the store soley because of their love for these animals and want nothing less than the best. Many of our employees have devoted many hours, unpaid, to keeping the dogs in as best care as we can. Without approval from Mary J for proper medications and enviornmental issues we are at a dead end at what we can do. This company is very cheap
