I had been ordering Fancy Feast salmon dinners in cans from Petco online for my male Himalayan cat Teddy for the past two years as I am homebound, in a wheelchair and alone in the world. That cat was all I had. The food that was delivered in June of 2008 made Teddy very sick then he died on July 19, 2008. Petco paid his 1200.00 plus vet bills but denied any wrongdoing and had me sign a nondisclosure agreement.
They claimed they were paying the vet bills as a goodwill gesture only and that I had no proof that the cat food was contaminated so they consider the matter now closed. I still have almost a full case of the bad food here but don't know what to do with it to find out what specifically caused Teddy's death. Petco's claims department won't tell me what was in the food to cause such a tragedy and they deny the cat food was contaminated saying I can't prove it. They paid the vet bills in exchange for my silence.
My best friend Teddy the cat died a miserable death. Petco covered the vet bills but did not pay for me to buy another Himalayan cat which cost me 463.00 total including transportation of the cat to my home. No amount of money can make up for the incredible pain and suffering this has caused me nor can it stop the horrendous guilt I feel knowing I fed Teddy poison food. We purchased a dog at from them and they represented that the dog was a pure canine comming from a reputible kennel with a valid dog breeder. On the papers we received they listed a breeders name under a line titled Breeder Name and a kennels name on a line entitled Kennel Name. They also game me what they said was a full medical discloser and medical records they said we complete.
I took the dog to the vet to insure the dog would be cared for correctly. the vet found what oould be signs or either mites or a fungus around the eye. Upon inpection of the medical report received from the company the records did indicate skin problems and a upper respitory infection but did not indicate when, how long it lasted or any detail on the skin problem. The dog also had an upper respitory problem and had to be put on anti biotics for a week.
When I researched the breeder and kennel I found that there was no records of any sort that I could find on the breeder and that the kennel listed was simply a dog broker and not a kennel. This I feel is misrepresentation! I called the company to ask for two things. First I wanted a complete doctors report on past history so that my present doctor could understand what the dog has had. I also asked for additional information about the dogs blood line because if there we heridary problems the vet would have a better chance for treatment if problems occur. I also asked to contact the breeder and information about the kennel. I ask talk to the district manager of the company also.
After a week nothing has happened, I call the store and talked to the manager but she did not call me back after a second call either. This company clearly misrepresents what they sell! This practice needs to be stopped and they should disclose all facts.

Petco is selling WHhtes tree frogs that are either inbred or carrying viruses according to my vet, after loosing 4 frogs purchased from petco, they replace them even though it was past the two week period...because there's were dying also as I pointed out to them when I came to the store to see what their frogs looked like in there tanks. My frogs basically stopped eating, were disoriented between night & day, moved to the bottom of the habitat and began dying one by one. I consulted with my vet and she stated that unfortunatly once you loose one, you will probably loose them all, and I did, with in 6 weeks of purchase I lost all 4 frogs. I am a 40 year old woman caring for these frogs, not a child. I can tell you that these frogs had all necessary items to live a heathly life.
I spoke to the manager Nick several times. First he thought it was the substate (I purchase from them) then he said it was beacuse he thought they liked to be just one to a habitat. The truth was his frogs were dying also and he continued to sell them stating it was just from shipping stresses. I told him no way,I would stop by un announced and look at their frogs on display. they had the same issues I had, thin skinny frogs.Amzing enough they have white tree frgs flier right there that state these frogs are easy starter pets! I told Nick the store manager I was meeting with my vet. I told him what she stated about the inbreeding or virus. Told him she thought it was just a matter of time before I lost the last ones. Unfortunatly she was right.
My vet recommended Petco to an ecropsey, when I told Nick her recomendadation, he said he had to email his boss for approval, but he was going on vacation the next day and his asstant would let me know. Of course,I never heard for them Nick stated he would replace all 4 frogs with a new batch. So as per my vet's recommendation, I emptied my habitat (Exottera 18x18x24) bleached it out. boiled all my drift wood, dipped my artificial plants in the boiling water and put all the driftwood and artificial plants in my freezer for 2 weeks to kill the virus - incase that was the probelm. After this 2 week period, I purchase new substate, reset up the habitat and went back to petco.
Unfortunatly on Monday Sept 9th I lost one of the new 4, same exact symptoms! I am so angry. I am thinking about all these parent who probably bought there children one of these sick frogs and think that their child did not care for it and it died. When the truth is the frogs were already going to die. Knowing that petco was having the same issue and would not pay the 200.00 for the test to find out ehat is causing this angers me. When they charged me 20 dollars a frog and I have lost 5 so far and they have lost several that I am aware of. Seems like they would have paid for the test to find out the exact issue and deal with it accordingly.
I will NEVER step foot in another petco and if I ever hear someone mention Petco, I will tell them my story. Most of the pets sold are for CHILDREN! Please let people know what petco is doing and protect our innocent children from the posibility of owning one of these sick / dying pets! Petco affered no re imbursement of my 60 dollar vet bill nor all the supplies ihad to throw away in case the issue is a virus there frogs are carrying., frogs were 19.99 each

I went into petco about a year ago to find a cat to bring home and when I asked the manager about the cat she said that it was going to be euthenized tomorrow. When I asked if I could buy it she said your house is to small. I couldnt believe that she had said that because she nor anybody else that worked thier had ever been to my house before. So now that cat is dead instead of being with kids that will love it.

I had bought a Golden Retriever puppy from this pet shop sometime back. But unfortunately the puppy turned out to be aggressive (highly unlikely of a normal golden breed) There would be atleast 2 phases during the day when the puppy would become ferocious and try to bite someone, which was very difficult to control. It even bit my son (1 year old) and tore the trouser he was wearing. As a result, we decided to return the puppy to the store, within 3 days of purchase, as it was apparant, even though the puppy was physically fit, it had some serious mental/psychological issues.
I got back 80% of the price I paid for the transaction - (this was agreed upon, if I returned the dog, I will get 80% back), and the shop refused to take back the cage I also bought from there. The facts under which I had to return the puppy is very unusual, if someone knows the nature of the goldens.... However, today we went to the store and wanted to check out on a labrador puppy. The salesman refused to show us the puppy, telling us they would not sell/show any more puppy to us since we returned a healthy dog. The salesman also added that he was conveying what has been directed by the store manager/owner.
I have lost around 500.00 in the initial transaction and have suffered mental humiliation in today's incident. I'm a regular to the store, as I also maintain other pets, and this is not the way to treat a customer.

Well I bought a dwarf rabbit for 59.99. Well I thought that I would be able to return the rabbit being that I asked the sales girl Kim and I thought that she said 7 days. ( not understanding if I brought the rabbit back dead) Well the rabbit was not working out it was peeing every time we took him out and he started to bite. I call and talk to a guy he said no I couldnt return the rabbit only if it was dead.
so I asked to speak to the manger and of course he said he was the manger so I asked if there was someone above him and of course he said he was the region manger. I think this place is the worse pet store around...I will never buy another animal from them again.

This is not a complaint in anyway. I understand that the stores vary between states and companies, and depending on management could be even more understandable why people are getting terrible service and unhealthy pets. The pet company, located in Town Center Mall, has by far the best management. The puppies are kept in great condition... they are fed very well, the temperature in the kennel in perfect and the puppies are bathed every single week, their ears are kept clean, their shots and de-wormings are kept fully up-to-date.
If there is a sign of sickness in any puppy they are checked immediately by the vet and are treated, the puppies are handled with extra love and care and DO NOT COME FROM PUPPY MILLS they all come from federally licensed breeders located throughout the country . As far as the other pets go, they are all kept in cages and tanks that are kept clean and stocked with food and water that is changed daily. The animals and reptiles and other pets are kept very healthy and happy. If you don't believe me, check it out yourself. If you walk into the store you wont even believe its a pet store. Its kept very clean and doesn't smell like the majority of other stores you could walk into.

Our 4 1/2 year old beautiful Maine Coon cat has always eaten Nutro dry food products. In November of 2007 the vet stated that she had lost weight and we noticed that she was not eating as much. We put her on Friskies and she's been eating that since January. Her weight has gone up, so the vet suggested we mix in some Nutro. We mixed Nutro into her food on Friday, July 11th. On Saturday, July 12th she began acting lethargic and had foul smelling excessive drool.
On July 13th, we brought her to the vet. Both kidneys are failing and one is enlarged. The vet said that her levels were at 23...normal is 2 or 3. At her last visit in December she was a 2.5. Now are perfectly healthy beautiful 4 year old cat, a family member that everyone loves, is deathly ill. I googled Nutro because I couldn't understand why this happened and the timing seemed a strange coincidence. As in other cases, our vet wondered if she was poisoned by antifreeze, which isn't possible. She is an indoor cat and we are extremely diligent. I found all of the complaints with the EXACT same symptoms. I am going to file complaints everywhere. I will take this all the way if I have to. I just pray she survives.
Our doctor's bills are 1700 and we are supposed to go on our honeymoon to Thailand tomorrow...which, of course, is now completely ruined. I love this cat so much and I'm devastated. There is no economic measure for the priceless love this cat gave to us. Something must be done.

My daughter and I went into the Pet Company in the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford, CT. We left very upset after seeing many small sickly and sad puppies in tiny cages. They had no toys, no food and slept on metal bottoms with drain holes. The cages reminded me of large fish tanks. Many of the puppies were raised by individuals in KS or MO. They were then purchased from Lambriar, KS and Hunte Corp, MO. The information was on their cages.
We did some research on the internet to find Hunte and Lambriar purchase and transport puppies from puppy mills. I am not surprised after seeing the state of the puppies. I felt terrible for the poor little Italian greyhound pup that was there. I know they shake, but this poor thing was shaking and trying to get comfortable on the metal drain floor he had to sleep on. I asked the price on this little puppy, and was shocked to find out he was 1529.00.

I purchased 16cans of dog food sku #000616990 and had to bring back 5 of them as they were expired in Feb 07. I'm very uphappy about that as the one of the employees at the store said that that particular location wasn't even opened yet but the cans were expired. They were in the front of the shelf that was visually just stacked up as there was no more room to put anything on it. So it appears to me that they put those cans in the front to get rid of them. Gross!
The economic damage i incurred was about 15-20 in gas that i had to use in order to drive back and forth to the store and return cans i purchased for my mother who doesn't live in my household.
