About Us

ConsumerAffairs.com, founded in 1998, is an independent consumer publication. We are supported solely by advertising revenue and do not solicit or accept grants or donations from corporations, foundations or government agencies. We have no business association or ownership interest in any of the products or services reviewed on our site. All of our services to consumers are free of charge.

Our Founder and CEO is veteran journalist and public affairs executive James R. Hood. Hood was Deputy Director/Broadcast Services for The Associated Press, Senior Vice President of United Press International and Founder and CEO of Zapnews, an independent news service later sold to ABC News. He directs our staff of award-winning journalists who cover beats including the United States Congress and all major consumer topics.

We are happy to work with the media to provide information about consumer issues. We can often furnish contact information about selected complainants as well as background information on companies, products and services. We are not, however, a free research service. We expect to be credited for our contribution to your stories.
