Trans Union Ordered to Stop Selling Consumer Data
Equifax in Trouble Again

Lorraine of Brick, NJ February 15, 2009

Lorraine of Brick NJ (02/15/09)
I ordered my free annual credit report through AnnualCreditReport. Equifax was timely & easy, but TransUnion would not proceed until I phoned them. There was a language barrier and it took 15 minutes for them to verify who I was. They asked me questions regarding a mortgage I paid off 10 years ago. I had no idea what my mortgage payments were back then, then they could not match a credit card number that I had for 15 years; I could go on but space prohibits me.

Then Gen or Gne (that's how she spelled her name) told me Congratulations, you have proved who you are & said I had to wait 15 minutes to continue. I timed off on the web site so I could not proceed with the next bureau, Experian, and frankly I am too agitated to continue anyway. I gave TransUnion way too much personal data for me to be comfortable with. Now I am worried about ID theft because I realized I called from a cordless phone. This was an absolutely dreadful experience and you should warn people on your website. That's how I linked to them, through your website.

My nerves are rattled & I worry that the personal info I gave them was not secure.

I contracted for a service that provided me access to all 3 credit bureaus. These reports could be run on a daily basis. In December TransUnion amended their agreement so that the reports could only be run every 30 days. This essentially eliminates the service that I contracted for, without a corresponding reduction in fee. Its unconsionable.

TransUnion inaccurately reported my credit information for the month of February. I am currently trying to close on a house and the information that is in their system is incorrect. I only have a brief time to close on the house in accordance with a marital settlement agreement. My mortgage company removed the information that was previously submitted to the credit agencies (in error) and was causing deragotory issues with my credit.

ALL of the other companies removed this negative information besides TransUnion. TransUnion tells you to call their company, however never will provide you with a telephone number, and the online system was down for a day. I cannot wait for them to remove their error it will cost me approximately 4,000 in points and an additional 1 percent interest per year! It is criminal that companies can do this to you!!!

Loss of 4,000 in points and an additional 1 percent per year. Potential further loss (including the house) if I don't close within the terms of the marital settlement agreement.

I ordered credit reports for myself and my husband , James. We live in the Pocono mts. and our mail must have a box number. Your answering machine only takes house numbers. We paid the 7.95 chg. for each one and it was taken out of our acct. on Jan 13, 2008. The reports must have been returned to your co. We tried to contact someone but could only get an automated machine. Do you have any real people there that can help us? I would appricate it very much. I am 79 years old and not very computer literate.

none yet , but are considering refinancing our home in the near future

Jill of Morgantown, WV January 29, 2009

Jill of Morgantown WV (01/29/09)
On september 5/08 I was notified via mail that Chase home finance had put my rental property that they held the mortgage on, into foreclosure. Due to the fact the house had sold in August and this was in error I notified the attorney that was filing, and Chase about this error, on the same date. On 9/11/08 the attorney filed a civil judgement on behalf of chase home finance against me regardless of the information I had provided to the attorney.

On 9/26/08 the attorney filed the necessary documents to erase this from my record. Chase sent me a letter in October that they had electronically notified all 3 bureaus and it would be removed. In december of 2008, in the middle of refinancing my mortgage, Transunion reported the civil judgement as active on my public records section of my credit report. I immediately ordered my credit report, on line and initiated an on line dispute. That was Dec.16/08.

On Jan. 2/09 Transunion notified me that they had marked the judgement paid. I then had to contat them via the phone and fax them the court docket that showed the error removed. They said that originally they had not been provided the proper documentation to remove it but wouldnt give me any details on what they received that was not proper documentation.

Due to this error I was not eligible to get a lower interest rate on my home mortgage and that cost me 400/month in interest. I have spent numerous hours trying to fix this mistake. I feel the law firm was to blame as well, they were notified 6 days prior to filing that this was a mistake. After removing the mistake, Transunion said my score only went up 17 points. The problem is that this dropped my score 100 points. They did not care and would not admit to their mistake. I cant even get a decent loan rate on a car? I work very hard to maintain an accurate credit report. I pull it every year and every year there is something wrong. It seems like it is very simple to put something on there but it takes an act of God to get it off. I had my score in the 750's prior to this and now I can get any decent interest rates. This is the lowest the 30 year fixed rate mortgages have been in almost 40 years and I cant reap the benefits because Transunion cant do their job.
