Stride-Rite
12 US Hwy, Route 22, Phillipsburg, NJ

Wilma of Phillipsburg, NJ, writes:
I went into the store to exchange a brand new pair of shoes I had bought for my daughter for a larger size. The attendant asked if I had the receipt and I stated that I didn't. I explained that I did not want my money back, I just needed a larger size. The attendant stated that they did not exchange unless there was a receipt.

I then pointed to the policy on the wall and stated that the sign read, "With a receipt, cash or credit to a card can be made within 60 days. Without a receipt, any unworn shoes can be exchanged". She stated that they were a privately owned company and did not adhere with all of Stride Rite's policies. I then went on to ask her why did she have that policy on the wall if they were not going to abide by it. She answered that she did not make the rules. She stated that if she did not find the receipt in the computer in the last two months records, she could not exchange my shoes.

By now, it's been like 30 minutes that I'm in this store and she is still looking through records in the computer. I'm very annoyed and upset by now and I started taking down some information. I asked for the address of the store, the owner's name (Joseph Delgado) and started writing some notes on the incident. At that point, another attendant, which also stated that I could not exchange the shoes without a receipt, told the attendant at the computer to exchange the shoes for me.

I feel that no one should have to go through what I went through. It's not right to display one thing and do another. I definitely want it known that the Stride-Rite in the Phillipsburg, NJ Mall is setting a bad reputation for the shoe "chain" stores.

It's not only not right, it's illegal. If a store posts a policy it must abide by it or face prosecution for false advertising. Wilma is also right that no one should have to go through such humiliation.
