Wal-Mart Tries to Buff Its Image

Dawn of Sandusky OH (01/10/09)
My husband and I were shopping in Wal-Mart on Friday, January 2nd around 11:00 p.m. We were in the store line waiting to check out when a police officer approached us and asked to speak to my husband. He took my husband out of the line and up to the front of the store entrance. I went over and asked what was going on several times and the police officer told me to get away and said he was not going to tell me again. He told my husband that he fit the description of someone that walked out of the store with a cart full of groceries. My husband told him to check his car. The police officer called for back up and another police officer came. They had my husband empty his pockets, searched him, asked him his information, and ran a background check on him.

In the meantime while this was being done, 6 Wal-Mart employees stood there and was talking about him. I overheard one lady that was employed by Wal-Mart state that she seen my husband put something in his pocket. The manager on duty and them all watched as my husband was searched. Keep in mind that this was at the entrance of the store where the door greeter is and customers are entering and leaving the store. After several minutes the police officer came over to the manager and told him that my husband did not have anything on him and that there was nothing on his record and that they were letting him go.

I went up to the manager with the other five employees still standing there. I asked for Wal-Mart's corporate number. He told me 1-800-Wal-Mart. He never apologized or nothing. I left my groceries sit there and only took the game that I purchased in the back. I called the policed department and asked for a report. They said there was no report written. I asked for the police officer's names and badge numbers. I do have that information, they said they do have on file that Wal-Mart called them out for a possible theft. I then called Wal-Mart back to get the manager's name on duty. He said his name was Rick, but could not give me his last name. The woman stated that the police were never called but a police officer was in there shopping and thought he stole.

I called Wal-Mart's home office on Monday. They stated that the manager of the Norwalk location would call me back sometime this week. I called back on Friday and they claim that someone attempted to call me on Thursday at 11:36 a.m. I explained that I never received a phone call and I do have caller ID and voicemail and that no one left any messages or the number did not show up. She said she would have someone call me back. I waited and called back around 5:00 or so and they stated that they would take a few more business days to get back to me.

This was a very humiliating experience. If they suspected theft they should have taken him into a back room and they did not have to pull us out of the line to pay for our groceries. We were not even at the counter yet. No apologies, no nothing. My husband and me do not steal. We both have good jobs and this was an embarassment!

I am very scared to go shopping now! We went grocery shopping and we had to leave because I had a panic attack.

On Wednesday my wife purchased a bottle of Biotin@6.94. When we got home she found the seal was broken. The seal under the lid. Today we took it back for a refund and to purchase a bottle with a seal. The Women at the return desk called my wife a lair and didn't believe the seal was broken when we purchased the item. I spoke with the Ass. Manager and he said he was sorry. That is not good enough. They refuse to identify the woman that made the statement. They covered for her. Another customer told them she heard the woman call my wife a liar and didn't believe what she said was true. We spend a lot of money at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. This is no way to treat loyal customers. There was no cause for that woman's actions. Store # 2559, Sterling Heights, MI

We had to drive 24 miles (round trip) to return the item, plus being called a lair by employee.

Walmart newspaper insert for sunday Jan4- Jan 10,2009 has on page 13 the Wii advertised, it is very clearly marked in the add that there will be a Minimum of 4 Wii's per Store. On Sunday morning Jan.4 at 8.30 I was at the walmart located in North Naples, FL on Tamiami trail and was told that they has received NON, and did not know when they where getting more.

They called a super walmart located on Immokelee rd, also in Naples florida and I was told that they has some. I arrived within 10 minutes at the store and was told by a clerk that they has only received 2 and that they where sold. I complained with the manager ,as this is clearly FALSE advertising, she also confiremed that they has only received 2 Wii's and checked some other local walmarts and told me that they had not received any.

This is very clearly false advertising. I went running around on Sunday morning and then to find out that each store did not even receive 4 items as is very clearly stated in the add.
