Gregory of Chicago (9/25/04):
Caremark personnel from Customer Service to Shipping lack the necessary training to be knowledgable of issues when required. They make statements and suggestions that have no validity. Most people who work for a living are never around to receive packages from UPS or Fedex. After reqesting that U.S. Mail be my method of shipment, Caremark sends an order out by UPS Next Day Air Saver which does not guarantee a morning comittment for residential service. The package was returned to Caremark and they sent it out again, the exact same way.

The sheer frustation and inconvenience of having to call the incompetent customer service department is punishment enough. Not to mention the issue of delayed orders due to their lack of procedures.

Jo of Brooklyn NY (12/2/03):
Caremark is a prescription mail delivery company that I am required to use with my health plan. Caremark's protocols for delivering prescription medications to its customers leave customers at HIGH RISK for ID THEFT, PRODUCT TAMPERING, and PRESCRIPTION DRUG THEFT.

How? TWO WAYS.

1) When Caremark delivers prescriptions, they use a carrier that DOES NOT always obtain the required signature for delivery, and that leaves prescription packages unattended by front doors, lobbies, hallways.

2) In addition, Caremark includes an unnecessary tag/label in each prescription packet that includes name, social security # and other private information AND this tag is in the same packet that is delivered without a signature and left unattended in hallways, by doorways, etc. (as opposed to being delivered in a secure mailbox or to a live person).

I wrote to Caremark's CEO and VP for customer services flagging these gaps in their prescription delivery protocols and asking that Caremark either REQUIRE that their carrier comply with Caremark's own stated policy that medication packages not be delivered without a signature and that Caremark not include a label in the packet with social security number, especially since the packet is left in public areas unattended. (No effective response).

These simple remedies would protect consumers against a high risk of ID THEFT, PRODUCT TAMPERING, and PRESCRIPTION DRUG THEFT. I have learned that these LAX prescription drug delivery protocols are a common problem with mail order prescription companies.

The potential economic damage is great to the individual (ID THEFT) and to the wider society (stolen prescription drug medications. Can be stolen and USED by unlawful holders)
