Prozac

Jacqueline of Petaluma CA (05/08/08)
I was prescribed Prozac 12 years ago for mild depression and was told it would NOT be addictive. I have tried twice stop taking it but was unable to because the withdrawal symptoms were so severe. It is not a drug to take unless if people are fully aware of how difficult it is to stop using and frankly not worth it.

My personality changed dramatically and my life was altered. I am just now tapering off VERY SLOWLY and giving myself 10 weeks before stopping Prozac. It is like an amphetamine and NOT affective in treating depression.

Wendy of East Norwich NY (08/23/07)
I have been taking antidepressant medication since 1989 for clinical depression. From 1989 to 2002, I took prozac and lithium carbonate. When I had a relapse in the Spring of 2002, my doctor added Wellbutrin XL to my daily medication. OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, MY HAIR ON MY HEAD IS NOTICABLY THINNING & MY TEETH ARE CHIPPING OFF--LITTLE BY LITTLE! I've lost a tooth and a half in the front upper part of my mouth.(I do not want to go off the medication because it has helped alieveate my depression.)

I need to have cosmetic dental work to repair my teeth--and to pay for further dental work as I age. It is humiliating to have these deteriorating teeth as well as be partially bald. Please help--I searched for class action suits on the internet for this drug--but have only found those relating to suicidal feeling, not horrible side effects like this.

Carmen of Tampa FL (07/28/06)
I would like to file an Anti-Depressant Injury Lawsuit against the Eli Lilly company regarding Prozac. The drug was prescribed in November 1988 by my psychiatrist.

Complaint is that I am seeking damages due to the following:

1). Increased suicidal episodes

2). Loss of sexual interest and drive with husband

3). Prozac has caused me to experience more violent behavior especially if medicine is missed.

4). Excessive weight gain of 100 lbs over an 18 year span.

5). Lost wages from being unable to function at work which led to my being terminated from several jobs.

6). Damage to ankle after suicide attempt in November 1988. (Jumped from a three-story window fractured fibulla and tibia).

7). Increased depression condition is worst than was in the past.

Currently experiencing extreme withdrawal symptoms such as: daily headaches, nausea, hallucinations, crying spells, increased sweating, and difficulty concentrating. As a result of the continuous use of Prozac, I fear that my behavior will only get worst and may lead to my committing suicide. All of my family, friends and former employers can attest to the fact that I have had several suicidal thoughts over the years. In addition, I have been court committed on more than three occassions.

On an economical standpoint, my credit has been severely damaged due to my inability to attain and/or maintain gainful employment. Despite all of these problems my Dr. Robert Mayer, refused to treat me for my depression on July 17, 2006; as I didn't have my co-pay. Therefore, I have stopped taking the Prozac and hope to cure myself without the use of any additional medications.
