Dennis of Kingston, NY October 5, 2009 Fractured femur did not heal; in hospital/nursing home for 8 months. Devastating economic and personal damage. Also had a failed spinal operation from result of taking Vioxx. Note that several operations were all successful when Vioxx was not introduced onto the market, yet when I began taking it, major healing problems resulted with at the time, no surgeons understanding why that would happen. Also, there are issues of Fosamax and broken femurs. I strongly feel that my broken femur was from Fosamax, and Fosamax can also affect bone healing by stopping the normal process of bone regeneration. Merck did not admit that its Vioxx drug not only created cardiovascular issues, but it has an extremely negative impact on bone-spine healing. Literature by major scientific institutes, surgeons, hospitals, etc. have converged that cox-2 inhibitors do indeed damage (and usually even stop) bone-spine healing. Merck knew this issue as far back as 1998 (via internal emails), yet chose to ignore it and market the drug anyway. As a result, estimates can easily show 50,000 people have been very negatively affected with orthopedic surgery which failed and/or fractures which did not heal. Do a google on "vioxx bone healing" and one will see what I mean. Merck STILL refuses to take a position on this or even acknowledge the potential - they have successfully hidden the problem for years so that it would not affect sales/high incremental profits and as a result, thousands and thousands including myself have suffered major damage. Ruthie of Bossier City, LA August 25, 2009 I took a drug Vioxx from 1999-2001 twice daily. I was diagnosed with heart disease and spent a few days in the hospital. I was living in OH at that time. Since living in LA, I found out too late that I indeed could have participated in the class action suit. But in the beginning Merck was Only accepting cases of death from Vioxx or strokes! When I kept calling the phone number for the Vioxx, I first was told in Ohio that I was not eligible. But in 3/2008, I received forms due to an extension by the class Action. Now, I am being told I can not participate because I did not file by 11/2007. I am physically suffering heart disease, hypertension and joint & muscle pain. My eonomic situation is indigent because I had to resign from my job due to Vioxx consumption. Please let me know if I can hire an attorney and go after this company some kind of way. My daughter had to take care of me and missed out on much of her high school days. I did not know this drug had been recalled. None of my doctors alerted me. Vickie of New Castle, IN March 15, 2009 Vickie of New Castle IN (03/15/09) Vickie of New Castle, IN February 12, 2009 Vickie of New Castle IN (02/12/09) Richard of Brick, NJ September 30, 2008 Richard of Brick NJ (09/30/08) Scott of Lawrence, KS November 14, 2007 Scott of Lawrence KS (11/14/07) He was skilled as an Orthodontist but I believe he had not read up on my two then prescriptions. That surgery was on a Monday and I had severe head pain on the coming Saturday. I was able to bite my teeth together to avoid a stroke, but I suffered from very bad aftershocks. I was very stunned and unaware afterwards. Dr. Fulbright from Lawrence Memorial Hospital South wing was able to diagnose an anyeurism when I finally thought I should ask for help. I told him Vioxx was what I had been taking at that time pain occurred. I was worried about taking too much on but decided I should do as suggested and felt safe enough to have Magnetic Resonance Imaging pictures of my head taken as Dr. Fullbright said.
