First National Card: Too Good to be True?

They sent my 14 year old daughter a credit card.

We were sent a First National Merchant card for credit card shopping.  This card had a 199.99 ACTIVATION fee, a 198.00 FIRST YEAR fee with a 99.00 YEARLY fee there after.

We have not activated this, as one might imagine, and are sending the information to the Nevada State Attorney General's office for : Telemarketing and Deceptive Trade Practices.

I called the company to activate my card on 4 Jan 06 around 1 am. I thought that it would be a good opportunity to build even better credit.

Then I thought that I would reference the internet to find out more about CCS. I found very bad reviews and multiple fraud claims. I didn't have a good feeling about the company so I decided to contact them on the 1-800 number that I had received earlier. I was on hold for 3 hours and never was able to speak to a representative!

I finally got through to a representative on the activation hotline and told her I wanted to deactivate my card. She told me if the 199 initial membership would put me in financial hardship then she could wave the fee to a lower cost. Each time I told her "no thank you" she proceeds to wave even more of the membership cost. After she attempted to wave the cost 3 more times she put me through to the floor manager to deactivate my card.

The floor manager proceeded to go through the same routine of lowering the initial membership fee. Finally after several tries I was able to deactivate my card.

I have my cancellation number and now I am waiting to see if my account gets charged.

My learned lesson is that you should always research a company because sometimes the terms that they send you are not always all the information that you need to make a good decision.

I received a CCS credit card in the mail.  When I called to decline and have them take me off their list I could not speak to a real person unless I entered the authorization number.  However, if you entered that number you agree to all terms and conditions including paying 199 in membership fees!

When I would not enter it, the prompt would not let me get any further. I am still afraid that they will try to bill me for this, steal my identity or ruin my credit.

This is a bogus credit card company - a scam and a cheat and needs to be stopped!

They cheated my 20-year old son out of 175.  They passed themself as a secure credit card company with the Visa logo, but it wasn't  until he recived the card that he found out it was not a credit card at all but a catalog card, of useless and cheap products.

This company needs to be stopped, as is praying on the inexperienced, those who are trying to rebuild their credit, and the disabled elders.
