Mona of Rowland Heights CA writes (10/12/01):
A few days later we received a package by Priority mail with a video tape and some brochure to these resorts. No explanation how or why to become a member, where is the catch? So we figure we'll give them a call when we have time. While checking on my bank info online, I discovered that there was a charge for $99.00 to World Vacation! So I called the bank and dispute the charge. A week later I got another charge for $99.00 to MCS Orlando, Florida. At that time we cancelled the card. Then I thought about this strange vacation package laying on the counter, I compare the company name "Qualycom" to both charges and did not match. Only Orlando Florida caught my attention. So I called the 888 number listed above and "Tom" answered. I asked him about the company and how it works, and how they get my info (name and address at that point) he mentioned that they have a marketing Company "Marketing Consulting Services" which is -- MCS! And he said that they called to offer this membership that cost $99.00!! Bingo. I got it. At this point I stopped him and asked him how did he get my name and my account number (check card). He said that the marketing company gets all the info from department stores or other retailers! I was furios and surprised. How dare they charge our account without our authorization.
