Amy of Mission, KS December 5, 2008
Amy of Mission KS (12/05/08) I purchased a set of tires from Costco in 2005. One of the tires became damaged and I took it in to get replaced. They could find no record of my purchase and refused to honor the warranty. I've spent over 3 hours on the phone and in the store trying to locate the details of the purchase and they can't find me in their system. Since they won't honor the warranty, I have to buy a new tire. My car receipts and bank records are currently in a PODS storage unit that I don't have access to.
I'm frustrated that Costco lost my information concerning the sale. They don't exactly have an incentive to find it since I have to buy a new tire now at full cost. How could they lose all details of the sale? To purchase at Costco, you have to give them your membership number! They were very unhelpful to me and it's upsetting to know that all of my tires have no warranty now because Costco can't keep track of who they sold things to. They said I'd have to show them the receipt or buy a new tire.
I used to like Costco a lot, but my opinion of them is very poor now. If you buy tires from these people, make a copy of the receipt and keep it in your car. Don't count on your membership information to be accurate, because Costco doesn't seem to have a reliable system for keeping track of tire sales, nor do they care about finding your information when they lose it. I will never buy tires from them again. I think it's a big scam.
Tire should have been under warranty, but they won't honor it. Now I have to pay full price for a new tire. Poliang of Cupertino, CA November 20, 2008
Poliang of Cupertino CA (11/20/08) I replaced my tire recently at Costco Sunnyvale, CA location. After replacing the tire, I start noticing that the steering wheel shakes after it passes 60mph. I went back to them and they redid the balance but the problem still exists. I went back again and they asked me to see a mechanic. This problem didn't happen before prior to the replacement of the tire. I don't see any reason why I should go see a mechanics for something Costco did wrong.
Brad of Calgary, AB November 20, 2008
Brad of Calgary AB (11/20/08) At 7 am I drove for half an hour to a Costco tire center in Calgary to have my winter tires changed. There was a lineup there and a staff started giving out numbers. After giving out 19 numbers, he claimed that this was all they could handle today and asked those who didn't get a number to leave. I was the 20th person in the line and the #19 was literally just 3 seconds earlier than me. They ruthlessly refused to serve me and treated me as if I was a beggar, not a customer!
I always think the membership fee of Costco is not worth it. And now I decided not to shop at Costco any more. The tire center said they have a labor shortage issue, but I don't care! It's their business and they can always hire more staff by increasing the salaries. We are paying 50 every year and deserve to get services of good quality.
Deborah of Florissant, MO November 4, 2008
Deborah of Florissant MO (11/04/08) I had 4 BF Goodrich tires put on my car in 2005. (1st time ever I bought BF's)I had a flat and at that time discovered the splits on the inside wall of the tire were the cause. After replacing the one, I found the other 3 needed to be replaced for the same reason. I had to pay for prorations on all 4 tires, Put on BF's again. I still had plenty of tread left too. I still thought the tires should have been called defective and covered @ no cost to me. I just had another tire go flat on me (about 1.5 years later) and still lots of tread left.
Cause again..splits on the inside wall of the tire (same area as last time on the tire). BF said Costco handles their own warranty status and Costco says they prorate on defects and ran it thru as a road hazard. I argued with BF rep. on the phone about the defective quality of their tires. I was actually told by the first guy who greated me with my problem (when I questioned him) that he has seen this with other BF tires before.
Despite the fact I got the run around by both Costco and BF, I just want to advise everyone to steer clear of BF tires (division of Michelin)I've had 4 cars and 30+ years of tires replaced due to nail flats or just plain wear, but never had this issue of split walls till I bought BF's and specifically from Costco.
I've come close both times to being on the highway when the tire walls split thru..though luckily I was not. I cannot believe what a racket Costco and BF have for repeat business with defective products and at my expense. Something needs to be done about these companies and the lack of responsibilty for producing poor products and decieving the public on quality. I will never buy another tire from Costco or BF Goodrich.
Both times these tires only had approx. 25,000 miles on them and plenty of tread left. Bf's customer service tried to tell me that climate, sun and chemicals can affect tires to this extent. I'm not buying this pack of lies. I NEVER had this problem with any other brand tire in my entire life. Firestone was forced to do something with their SUV tires when proven to be defective..why not this company? Before they kill someone, would be nice! Judy of San Diego, CA October 17, 2008
Judy of San Diego CA (10/17/08) One year ago we bought Michelin tires (4) with a warranty rating of 45,000 miles. We have put 13,000 miles on them. I had the tires rotated at about 8,000 miles of use. I ran over metal today that caused a tire to go flat. The supervisor measured the tread depth on the outside edge of the tire, told me that both rear tires needed replacing, and would not honor any warranty or road hazard warranty. This is the SECOND time this has happened.
Every time I go in to Costco tires, they try and sell me tires when I do not need tires. A year ago after purchasing the set of 4 tires, I ran over metal, and ended up - after ONE WEEK OF USE - buying another new tire (for 140!). !!!!!
This is my second go around with the road hazard warranty - not to mention the manufacturer's wear rating warranty - that is being completely ignored, to the tune of 140 each time.
