Discount Tire

Audrey of Selden, NY January 22, 2009

While replacing tires I was told the last person that worked on my car stripped all the lug nuts and studs. I was charged to replaced all 20 lugnuts and studs. I waited 3 hrs for this to get done.

I was charged an extra 235.00 to replace the lugnuts and studs. I took the old ones back to the machanic that has been working on my car for 3 years. They told me I got taken. There is no way all 20 lugnuts could have been stripped. They told me this a way shops make extra money by taking advantage of women.

Michael of Mission Viejo, CA September 19, 2008

Three weeks ago I had the tires on my Hummer rotated and balanced by a company called Discount Tire Centers. After leaving their shop approximatly 200 yards the rear left wheel came off the car while going 25 mph. I expected their insurance company to resolve the matter, however 3 weeks later my vehicle is still in the shop and I am now being told by the Hummer dealer that their insurance company does not want to cover all the damage.

At this point Hummer is estimating the needed repairs at 1850.00 yet the insurance company is willing to only pay 600.00. I belive their insurance company is acting in bad faith and that Discount tires is grossly negligent for putting my wife and I at severe risk.

Joseph of Lake Arrowhead, CA August 20, 2008

I took my truck to Discount Tire Center for an alignment of my front tires. After the vehicle was put on the lift and visually inspected. The the alignment technician called me into the shop to point out a sever leak in my front passenger side brake caliper, dripping on to the tire creating a four inch wide swath, which appeared to be coming from break a line caliper union other wise known on this break system as banjo fitting. He then proceeded to tell me that this was a very dangers problem and that he could find out how much it would be to fix it. I informed him that I do all my own work on my vehicles and I do not want to hear any more about this problem.

He then did the alignment and took the vehicle on a test drive to check the aliment. upon his return he stated that the the aliment was good but the break petal felt a soft and funny and I really should have it taken care of. I thanked him payed and left. When I got to my vehicle I took a second look at the leak and did some very simple test on the breaking system to check for a break leak. All of them came up negative. I cleaned the oil off the caliper and took it for a drive. I used the breaks very aggressively to worm up the the break system in attempt to reproduce this leak. Which I failed to do.

To preface all of this, I drove my vehicle down from Lake Arrowhead to Discount Tire Center, down a windy steep mountain road losing approximately 4,800 feet of elevation in 14 miles. During this drive my breaks felt perfectly normal. I would say I'm very in tune with my vehicle. I do all the maintenance to my vehicle my self. I find it VERY unlikely that a problem like this could exist and I would be unaware of it.

If I did not have a mechanical knowledge of my vehicle, I would have been ripped off for a break job that I did not need and the Evidence of which was completely fabricated. If this had happened to my father, mother or girl friend, they would have had it fixed right then and there. I feel violated and that this shop is dishonest or they have a employee who is trying to drum up work.

Yong of Los Angeles, CA June 20, 2008

I went to Discount Tire Center to get my tires replaced on my Mercedes Benz S430. While it was being worked on, I noticed that there was a scratch on my rims. I pointed it out to the manager, Jonathan Hage. His reaction was that he started to yell at me. I was calm and did not want to make a big deal out of the scratch. He then told the guy working on my car to put my old tires back on and have me leave the shop. All I wanted was to get my new tires and leave, but he would not let me do so. I previously dealt with an employee named Bill. I wanted to speak to him because he treated me with respect. While I was trying to have a conversation with him, the manager kept yelling at me to get out. I told him that I was having a conversation with Bill, not him. He ignored my request to butt out and continued to badger me with his words. My feeling was that he was disrespecting me because I was Asian. I had no choice, but to leave the shop with my old, worn out tires. The attitude Jonathan Hage gave me felt like it was because of my race. If I had been a Caucasian customer, I am sure that I would not have received the same kind of service.

D. of Colorado Springs, CO January 9, 2008

Overview: Approximately three years ago, I purchased Toyo tires, luckily keeping the receipt and brochure for the tires.

FIRST DECEPTION: With the tires in terrible shape, I called the same store and asked what my warranty was. They told me I had NO warranty. I later found the brochure with my notes on it and found it clearly marked I had a 60,000 mile warranty. When presented with this brochure, they said they would honor it. No where on my original receipt was this warranty documented.

INCREASED PRICES: The warranty honored took a discount on tires that had an inflated price. Tires don't go up 50/tire in 2-3 years.

I feel deceived and treated terribly along the way. Did I mention I'm 28 and female? Probably didn't need to.

Chris of Wills Point, TX January 6, 2008

Chris of Wills Point TX (01/06/08)
I purchased new tires in May of 2007. After about 400 miles they were out of balance so I went back. At that point I had no other problems with the vehicle. They balanced them for a fee and within 3 turns to get back on the highway I noticed a loud cluncking sound when I turned, so I went back immediately. They raised the truck with a lift and let me watch. I noticed that the tech adjusted the lift and that it was pressing with the vehicle weight against the bottom ball joints which caused them to immediately start leaking grease. To this day the problem persists. I have taken it to the dealership where I bought it and they thought it was a chassis bushing and replaced it but it did not fix the problem.

I have lost no less than 5 days of work which is a major impact to me as a self employed individual that depends on a specific vehicle. My largest concern if for the safety of other people on the road and my own.
