Jogging Strollers

Kerry of Belmont, MA February 2, 2009

The lcoking machanism in my infants stroller started to malfunction without my knowledge. It is lockated iside the frame of the Orange Oak Travel System. I strpped my son into the stroller and began walking with him. While walking the stroller released and collapsed on him. I cantacted Baby Trend to seek a replacement stroller and they informed me that they do not do replacements only repairs and only if you can provide a receipt proving that it is less than one year from the date of purchase. They had no options for someone like me who received the stroller as a baby shower gift.

My child was no majorly injured but was hurt (and very scared, as was I). I know have to find a way to replace the stroller since it is no longer safe, and the company does not seem to care.

I needed the straps sent out on my high chair. Here is the response that she gave me. I am surprised that a supervisor of customer service takes this interaction personal. I simply said that on principal, if they can't replace a safety strap, than I would rather look into companies that do. I hope that they monitor the email correspondence. I am no longer shopping Baby Trend.

"There was nothing personal in the statement that was made. What your wanting is for the manufacture to provide you with parts for your highchair instead of you making the effort to replace the parts yourself. If you would rather spend 90 on a new highchair than purchase new straps for a minimum price that's your option. As the manufacture we are not providing the parts for a product that is no longer under warranty and since we received conflicting information, that is why it was my duty to inform you of the correct information from our engineers. This product was not made in 2008, there are some consumers who make false statements to try and save themselves the hassle & money of purchasing replacement parts because they intend on using the product for their 2nd or 3rd child. As for the email that you have replied with and making such remarks yourself. Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of working for such places, thank you for letting me know and I hope your career with the food industry does well. Since your not willing to purchase new straps for your highchair there is nothing else we can do for you. Have a FANTASTIC day!!!! Thank you Teresa - CS Dept Baby Trend"

We are not buying Baby Trend baby gear any more. The quality items are paired with horrible representation.

Niquette of Windsor Mill, MD March 21, 2008

In February, while using a Baby Trend Snap and Go stroller that I purchased in December, the rear wheel fell off. The stroller tipped over. My son was not hurt, thank God. I tried to return it to the store that I purchased it from, but they instructed me to contact Baby Trend. When I contacted Baby Trend, they stated that all they could do for me was send me a replacement wheel. I stated that I did not want any replacements, that I wanted my money back as this item was defective, and I did not feel safe continuing to use it. Angela, the customer service person I spoke with, was quite rude and disrespectful. As a company selling an item that will be used for a baby, there is a level of superior quality that you expect. You don't expect that the product will fall apart after two months of use. I have two children. With my daughter I only used Graco products, and I never had a situation of this nature.

God forbid something had happened to my son while he was in the stroller. I have dealt with other companies in the past, Fisher Price and Just One Year for non safety related things have been very helpful. I had never used Baby Trends products before this, and I will never use Baby Trend products again. Since this has happened, I have learned from general conversation with other parents that this manufacturer sells poor quality products, as a number of people have shared with me their Baby Trend stories. This is just unacceptable.

We thought we could get a great product at an affordable rate and bypassed the higher-end lines and we decided on the Baby Trend Expedition Jogger/Infant seat travel system. At first pass it worked fine and we were pleased overall. Several weeks into owning the stroller we noticed that the front wheel became excessively shaky when not in the locked position. It was very difficult to maneuver with the wheel locked all the time, as we use the stroller for every day use.

We called and were told to check and adjust the tire pressure. This didnt fix the problem and were told to try another fix, which also didnt work. When we called a third time it was suggested we ship the stroller back.

After we finally found a box large enough to ship this stroller back, we shipped it in tact to Baby Trend to be repaired. Several weeks later I called and followed up and was told it would be returned within 10 days.  We got home and opened the box to our surprise, our stroller had been shipped back unassembled! The issue we had was the unstable front wheel, and the wheels had been removed, negating the correction! Worse still, the screws and hardware we shipped in tact with our stroller had been removed AND NOT REPLACED! Baby Trend took apart our stroller and sent it back without the parts or means to put it back together!

The footrest on the front of the stroller has no hardware for us to put it back on, and the tray that the car seat rests on has no screws and pulls out when touched, meaning the car seat CANNOT be placed in the stroller! If I hadnt pulled it out first, I could have put my child in the stroller and he would have fallen immediately out of it. How could this happen, how could they send a stroller back with no parts and with a blatant safety hazard, as though it hadnt been checked at all?

Molly of Lawrenceville, GA October 31, 2007

I reported a malfunction of a stroller manufactured by Baby Trend. The stroller has collapsed twice with my infant strapped in. I was told that it was only warrantied for 180 days, and if iIwanted to have it repaired, I would be responsible for the costs or that if I felt that the product was unsafe, to discontinue use. I feel this unacceptable and that the product is faulty. I am concerned that a child could be seriously injured or killed. They do not seem to share this concern.

Luckily, my child was not injured, but easily could have been. The stroller was purchased as a travel system combo for over 200. I will have to purchase a replacement due to it being unsafe for my child.

I received a Baby Trend Expedition Jogging stroller as a shower gift and when I put it together, the brakes broke off of the steel frame of the stroller. I called the company immediately and they told me they would ship me a replacement brake and took all of the information they needed from me. I didn't receive the replacement after a month and I called back and they had no record of my first call or the proof of purchase I had sent them, and told me the person I dealt with the first time was no longer with the company.

This time they refused to send me a replacement (past the warranty, they couldn't find my receipt/correspondence) and were extremely rude to me. They hung up on me twice and also never returned my call they promised. They were very rude to me and now I have a defective stroller I can't use.

If the brake broke while my child was in the stroller and I was running, she may have gotten injured. I had been waiting a month for the part and meanwhile could have returned the stroller to the store. Now I don't have the receipt (Baby Trend lost it) and can't use the stroller. I had to remove myself from a jogging event I had registered for because the stroller was defective. I am very unhappy with the poor customer service I received.

Shanna of Lugoff, SC May 2, 2006

The identification and directional stickers on my baby trend infant carrier car seat (model 6373, manufactored 5/18/05) have all come off. The seat has never been washed or cleaned and it has only been in use 6 months. As a car seat technician I know that the stickers on the car seat are of utmost importance for identification and warnings. I emailed the company for replacement stickers and they have not been able to locate any.

The stickers do not peel off, they come off completely and actually just simply fall off. This is a major problem for identification and proper usage of the car seat.

Currently there have not been any consequences other than inconvience, however my concern is for other people who are not as knowledgeable about car seats and if their stickers are falling off and they are not aware of the weight and height limits or the make and model of their seat. Jeff at baby trend was very nice and he tried to find replacement stickers, but he had no luck. I simply feel like the stickers are too important to the safety of the seat to leave it at that.

Jana of Glendale, AZ June 24, 2005

I purchased a Baby Trend stroller Glen Rock Shuttle Traveler in November 2004 for my new baby who was born in December. About the third time I used the stroller it collapsed while my baby was in it. He was strapped into the infant carrier that attaches to the stroller base. Had he NOT been buckled in properly, he would have been on his head, on the sidewalk.

I had gone over just a small crack (lift) in the sidewalk that was maybe an inch tall. The entire stroller collapsed and my shins ran right into the basket. I thought it was a user error, that my husband had not fully opened the stroller. We had been around the block SEVERAL times before it collapsed. Recently, it collapsed on me again and luckily I caught it before a major injury ocurred. There was no rhyme or reason for it to collapse.

I researched online to see if there were any others who had complained about this stroller and there were SEVERAL. This stroller has a MAJOR safety issue and I contacted Baby Trend directly to let them know how upset I was. They are aware of the problem and said they have been in discussions with the Consumer Safety Commission (or whatever it is called) ..... and that they have two samples of the stroller in their hands at this time. They have been discussing it for two months.

I do not understand why they have not recalled this stroller. My baby could have been dead had he been in the regular stroller part and not his infant carrier, fully strapped in. They admitted that they have had over two dozen phone calls with the same issue I have had. That is over 24 people who have complained about the sudden collapsing.

Another major safety issue is the emblem on the foot rest of the stroller. It is a piece of hard plastic with the name Baby Trend on it and I found this hard plastic sticker attached to the back of my baby's bottom. This easily could have come off and ended up in his mouth as a choking hazard.

Does a baby have to die before this item is recalled? That is my question. Baby Trend seems to be waiting for this item to be deemed officially unsafe before they will take responsibility and care enough to post a notice on their own and let consumers know that it was designed very poorly. I am very upset about this.

I received a BabyTrend Lite Play Yard as a baby shower gift. However, when I try to set it up the middle of the floor continuously pops up. Because of this I can not place my child in the play yard. I have called the company twice now in the past two days and nobody has called me back.
