Wayne of Garden Grove CA writes (8/1/02):
My daughter's infant hates this car seat. She cries as soon as she's strapped in. I started checking things to see if I could find anything. I did. In the front there is an adjustable piece that snugs the baby in. The outside looks smooth but if you feel in the back. it's not smooth and there is a square piece of plastic that digs into the infant's chest or stomach area. It may be fine for the winter months but summers are hot and this could cause a puncture into the chest or stomach area under certain conditions.

Julie of Jasper MO (8/3/03):
I received an Evenflo car seat and stroller for a baby present. Model #5751318 p1. On three different occasions the baby's arm was caught and pinched when putting the carrying handle into the carry position. Obviously resulting in a screaming and crying baby with skin pinched in the car seat.

Jobeth Kramer of Sturgeon Bay WI (4/7/03):
I had recently bought the Titan convertible car seat for my son, and I thought it was great until I put him in it. when I pulled the shield down and went to lock it in my son started crying and I realized that it was pinching his legs as a result of there not being enough room between the shield and the seat. My son is only 5 months old and I thought that he would be using this for at least a year, but he only got to use it for a day. after fooling around with it for hours I realized that there was no raising the shield up -- only closer or further away from the baby.

Damage Resulting: My son had bruises on his legs for days and I had to go and spend even more money on a car seat that worked.

Phyllis of Portage IN writes (4/5/02):
I bought a Carseats for my grandson. My daughter-in-law complained that the place on the car seat where you clamp and secure the shoulder straps that is between their legs didn't always hold. On occasion, it wouldn't lock. We called Evenflo using the phone number on the car seat. They were rude and told us that the car seat was from 1997. That shouldn't matter.

They said it wasn't a recall and it was bought brand new! It was in perfect condition. They said that it wasn't under warranty. We didn't ask for handouts. We stated that we wanted to send them the part that wouldn't lock and asked for a replacement. The part is interchangeable. It is held securely with 4 screws. They wouldn't listen. They told us in no other words to buy another car seat.

Well, the safety of our child and many others that might have the same problem was of no interest to them. They were defensive and they only answered the phone, when asked to speak to a supervisor, the same girl's voice returned to the phone and stood up for the one that we talked to which had the same attitude and I suspect was the same person. She gave us the same advise. We will not buy any other evenflo products. They aren't safe and they won't back their product.

They didn't even want to hear of receiving the product in the mail, at our expense to look at or send us the replacement part. The woman stated that she knows we are wrong and that there was probably something crammed in there, which there wasn't. She stated that she put them together herself and knew I was wrong. Odd that the operator was also the one that assembled the car seats.

Car seats are a law, they are the safety of our children and I don't feel this should be taken lightly. I am a registered nurse. I am not in need of free merchandise, just fair treatment. We have to buy another car seat instead of getting the part for this one.
