What is Enterprise Rent-A-Car?

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a global vehicle rental service company that offers a wide selection of vehicles to travelers or those who need a short-term vehicle.

Drivers can find an Enterprise rental location in most major airports and other locations throughout the country. If you use rental cars regularly, you can subscribe to Enterprise and take advantage of benefits such as access to a range of vehicles and insurance, maintenance and roadside assistance for just one monthly payment. Subscribing with Enterprise also lets you swap out vehicles up to four times in a month.

From compact sedans to minivans, trucks and luxury cars, Enterprise makes it easy to reserve, rent and return rental cars across the country.

How does Enterprise work?

The first step in renting a car through Enterprise is the reservation process. As you browse its online inventory of rental cars, you’re asked to input information such as:

  • The type of car you want
  • Pickup location
  • Drop off location
  • Pickup/drop off dates
  • Additional coverage options
  • Added features (car seats, GPS, snow chains)

Once you’ve input this information, Enterprise will produce a list of vehicles that meet your needs.

Picking up the car
Once you’ve made your reservation, pick up your rental car on the predetermined date at an Enterprise location. An agent helps you locate the car on the property and do a walkthrough to take note of any damages or issues with the car before you take it. After signing some paperwork, you’re free to take the car for your agreed-upon rental.
Additional options
During the reservation process, you will sign a damage waiver that covers minor damage to the rental car such as scratches or dents. This is an optional protection plan, but any minor damages to the rental car will come out of pocket if you choose not to sign a damage waiver.

Drivers can also add personal accident insurance or personal effects coverage at the time of their rental for an additional daily charge. These insurances are optional, and the cost varies based on the location where you are renting the car.

If you are worried about losing your keys, running out of gas, or getting locked out of your car, you can add roadside assistance protection to your reservation so that you aren't charged out of pocket for these roadside incidents.

Returning the car
When it is time to return the car, drive it to the predetermined drop off location. During drop off, an Enterprise agent will perform a walk-through inspection again to ensure the car has not been damaged.

The agent will also check that the car has been refueled. If you choose not to fill up the gas tank, you will be charged the company’s gas rate, which is usually more expensive than the local pump price. If you are picking up a rental car at the airport, you can prepay for fuel, which lets you return the car without worrying about filling it up.

If you need your rental car for a few days longer, you can call the Enterprise location and ask if the car is available for an extension. There are no penalties for returning your car early, but you can only return your car to a non-airport location during business hours. Enterprise locations within the airport usually allow returns after hours.

How to rent a car with Enterprise

To secure a rental car, you must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable form of payment and meet the rental location’s minimum age requirements. Most rental locations set their minimum driver age at 25 but may allow drivers between 21 and 24 to rent a car with a “youthful driver surcharge” of $20 a day. You will also be required to put down a deposit that varies by location.

Enterprise car rental price

The cost of your rental car depends on a variety of factors, including how long you have the car, what type of car you choose, your rental location and any insurance or additional products you select. Below are a few examples of the most common types of rental car selections and the cost for a week.

VehicleCost
Pickup truck (Ford F-150 or similar)$269 a week
Economy car (Mitsubishi Mirage or similar)$186 a week
Compact car (Nissan Versa or similar)$186 a week
Standard car (Volkswagen Jetta or similar)$196 a week
Compact SUV (Ford EcoSport or similar)$230 a week
Standard SUV (Ford Edge or similar)$256 a week
Luxury car (Cadillac XTS or similar)$282 a week
Premium SUV (Chevy Suburban or similar)$464 a week
Luxury elite SUV (Land Rover Discovery or similar)$468 a week

Other costs to consider when renting a car include local taxes, damage waivers, accident insurance, roadside protection and additional equipment, such as car seats or a GPS.

Enterprise FAQ

What does Enterprise car rental insurance cover?

Enterprise offers three different tiers of car rental insurance. There is the basic damage waiver that covers minor damages to the car, the personal accident insurance that covers the driver and the passengers in the car if there's an accident and the personal effects coverage that covers the driver, any passengers in the car and drivers of other vehicles if you’re liable.

What time does Enterprise open?

Most Enterprise locations open at 6 a.m., but this can vary between locations, so it's important to check before you rent a car.

What time does Enterprise close?

Some locations close at 5 p.m., while others are open much later. Operating hours depend on the location.

What kind of cars does enterprise rent?

Enterprise offers a wide variety of cars in different makes, models and sizes. Drivers can rent an economy car, pickup truck, sedan, SUV or luxury vehicle.

Does Enterprise own other rental car companies?

Yes. Enterprise is the parent company of National Car Rental, Alamo Rent a Car, and Enterprise CarShare.

Still have questions?

Is Enterprise a good car rental company?

Enterprise offers a wide selection of high-end vehicles in hundreds of locations across the country. It rents many newer model cars that get regular maintenance and cleaning. The company’s high number of locations makes it a convenient choice if you need to rent a car for short- or long-term use.

I recently rented from Enterprise in Richmond BC, Canada. After trying to rent an economy car from Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar in my neighbourhood in Vancouver only to be bluntly told that they only had minivans for rent (really? Three different companies under the same roof and that's the best you can do?). No explanation, no apology, no offer to try and find something suitable. I left, and crossed the bridge into Richmond to try Enterprise.

What a totally different experience! The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They apologized for keeping me waiting for five minutes. Although they didn't have any economy cars right at the moment they upgraded me to a compact, which turned out to be a beautiful Hyundai Kona with only 7000k on it and more options than I've ever seen. I wasn't sure how many days I would need it for but it wasn't a problem to renew the rental twice; I went back to the office both times but they said I could have just phoned them. Everyone I dealt with was wonderful. Special thanks to Rahul for all his help. Will rent there again without hesitation.

I recently rented a vehicle at Burbank Airport from Enterprise. It was the BEST SERVICE I have EVER received from a car rental company! Usually, when renting a car, I go from the counter to a row and number and am on my own to make sure it is the correct car, figure out how to work all the controls, etc. This time, a person escorted me to my vehicle, showed me the various controls, and even paired my phone to the Bluetooth in the car. Never has that been done before. Very impressive. When I returned the car, there was a person there to receive it, asked me if there were any problems, how was my trip, etc. Also a rarity - often there isn't anyone available for a hand-off or any instructions. Kudos to the team there!

I'm not big on writing reviews for services rendered. I believe that if you're being paid to do a job, you should always do your best. But when someone goes above and beyond the call of duty. That person should be recognized and applauded. While traveling with my son to a college he's entrusted in attending. I rented a vehicle from Enterprise for the trip. The first car we chose had a strong smell of cigarette smoke. So we changed to another vehicle. In doing so, I left a valuable over coat which belonged to my brother who was allowing me to borrow it for the trip. I didn't realize the coat was missing until the next morning.

I had no way of tracing it because I didn't rent the vehicle the coat was left in. I did everything I could to recover it. I made phone calls, filed a report, everything up to and including having my brother return to the airport to speak with the staff on duty. Everyone he spoke with did what they could to recover the coat. But Mary, turned over every stone until it was found. Words can't describe how much I appreciate Mary's efforts. Her willingness to go the extra mile is the true definition of customer service. Thank you! Mary, you're a wonderful person and a great employee."6 STARS".

So I had already reserved or at least I was under the impression that I had reserved a mini van for a trip to Florida. But when I arrived for my rental car there were no mini vans available…Mind you this was the weekend of Valentine’s Day but Lucas W. gave his all to find one for me but it just didn’t happen. So I ended up driving a standard SUV with my 75 yo mother, 2 sisters, son and two granddaughters 4 and 5yo all the way to Florida. Let’s just say it was the most uncomfortable journey I have ever been on. Lucas W had tried to find me a van even after I had gotten to Florida but nothing still! I truly want to thank h for his efforts! Well it was time to go back to Ohio, and that was after going to the airport trying to find still find a van.

We were a bit disappointed but stayed positive! And as we were leaving to get on the road I spotted an Enterprise rental on the road and decided to stop and see if they had a van. And after I told Frankie A at the Margate Fl, rental location my story he was able to find me a van he had there on site. It made everyone in my family so happy we shed tears as we swapped vehicles! I want to thank both Frankie A. and Lucas W. for all the great help and customer service/support! God Bless them both!

I’m a member of Enterprise Rent-A-Car and have used them several times in the past for both car and truck rentals. Most recently a ¾ ton truck for a trip out and back to Oregon and then for a Jeep while we were down in Vegas. Both experiences were great. I have always had good experiences with Enterprise and why I decided to become a member. That was until this past week. I booked a rental online for the Missoula location at 3309 W. Broadway St. I booked this online on 5/22 for the following week. A 3-day rental starting on Thursday the 28th- Sunday the 31st. I received my confirmation email on 5/23 and confirmation #**. All was good, or so I thought, until I arrived. We had just completed the 1hr 20 min drive from our home in Plains to pick this rental up.

We had planned to rent a larger car for our trip down to UT. This way everyone would be more comfortable, since our larger vehicle was in the shop. However, when we got there, not only did they not have a vehicle for my reservation, but they had no vehicles at all. No call, Text, or even an email letting us know they had no vehicles. I simply got to the counter and was told, "I’m sorry we have no vehicles. I’m sorry." I told him that we had just driven in from 90 minutes away to pick this car up and he simply said, "I’m sorry there is nothing we can do." I said, "What about my confirmation" only to be told, "We have no vehicles." He was right. Their lot was bare.

I didn’t have time to push for a solution since in my mind this was a breach of contract since they had sent me a confirmation number. And I didn’t want to argue back and forth. I just turned to leave as he said, “Sorry” again. I just replied “Whatever” in frustration. I think this is exactly what he was hoping for as he then canceled my confirmation out of their system.

Terrible customer service and terrible communication. I get things can go wrong, and I get that it may not have been this person’s fault. But “Sorry” doesn’t cover the inconvenience caused and the hardship of not honoring the confirmation of the rental agreement. I went from Hero Dad to a big Zero dad as I got to try to explain to my kids why you couldn’t keep your end of the agreement and why you didn’t even have the courtesy of calling/texting to let us know. We then proceeded on our trip in a cramped vehicle we weren’t planning on traveling that far in. Not Cool Enterprise! I don’t plan on coming back until your competitors find a way to lose my business. I know, no big loss, I’m just one customer of thousands. This is why I decided to share my disappointment with others. I’m just 1 insignificant customer in your world.

Happened to drive by Jeep on the lot but told it is already reserved. This is where things went down. I mentioned the person I was working with and waiting 3 days since promised a Jeep. Well had to get manager involved, Seems everyone is green at the Lebanon Tennessee location. Once I got my husband there things changed and we drove off in the jeep after an hour of back in forth. Jeep wasn't cleaned and not a full tank but since it was a fight to get what I reserved we took it.

I am reporting a bad business practice of Enterprise Rent-A-Car company that tries to collect an additional 75% of rental contract amount without any reasonable explanation. I had an agreement with Enterprise to rent a midsize SUV Nissan Rogue at Houston Hobby airport (HOU) on 11/27/2025 and return the car at Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) on 12/02/2025 for $519.99. I received the agreement via email after requesting to modify the original 3-day round trip rental to 5-day one way trip from HOU to DAL. Please see the attached e-mail.

I did everything according to the agreement and paid $519.99 on 12/02/2025. After more than a month, on 01/11/2026, Enterprise charged my credit card an additional $389.04. I contacted Enterprise 5 times. Every time the Enterprise Specialist assured me that a manager would call me and explain the reason for the additional charge. The manager never called. I initiated a chargeback and the money was returned to my account. Now they are trying to collect $389.04 claiming that it was “an unauthorized drop off at Dallas Love Field” even though in fact the agreement contained Dallas Love Field as a return location.

I am getting phone calls, emails and letters from Enterprise Consumer Collections requesting additional to the contract $389.04 and it started affecting my credit scores. To my surprise, Enterprise leadership claims it has no power to influence unprofessional and rude Houston Hobby location management and make them act according to the agreement. After I sent a copy of the agreement (as a proof that DAL was a return location) to Enterprise Customer Service, I received the following response: “As this decision was made at the highest level for the location, we’re unable to adjust or reverse the final charges or close the balance as requested.” It is hard to believe that Enterprise thinks that it is OK to charge an additional 75% of a contract amount with no reasonable explanation when a client does everything according to the contract.

I've been a customer with Enterprise since 2012, and this location on Stan Schlueter in Killeen, Texas consistently provides the slowest and poorest customer service every time I rent from them, which has been at least 1-2 times a month. Even with completing online check-in means nothing. I still have to wait a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour for a car. They work slow, plans poorly for scheduled reservations, and waiting for a car to be detailed when they know what time reservations are scheduled is unacceptable.

This can be frustrating when you have business trips and have a certain time to be at your destination. This is very poor management considering that reservations are made to allow them time for them to plan accordingly to have the car ready. As a long time customer I don't experience this with any other locations

I went through Enterprise on Deer Valley Road due to having recall work done on my car. After my car was ready, I called Enterprise to see if I could drop my car off at Bell Road Toyota dealership and they said it was ok, they would pick it up from there. I dropped the rental car off on April 30th with a full tank of gas and no damages. It has taken NUMEROUS phone calls to the location I rented it from, as well as the customer service line, to get them to pick up this car.

I get a call today informing me that they finally went to get the car but the dealership couldn't find the keys and that I would have to be charged fees for a new set!! Tanner, the name he gave me, was short and rude and didn't seem to care about my situation at all, he just kept saying I would have to pay for a new set of keys. I asked to speak to a manager and he put me on hold and never came back to the phone. I was on hold for at least 10 minutes so I hung up. Before being placed on hold I told him I had already given them the name and the number of the service person I handed the keys off to and they said they couldn't get a hold of him!

I managed to get a hold of the service person at Bell Road Toyota and he assured me the keys were there. He had to call Enterprise. Mind you it's been past 3 weeks that that rental has been sitting on Bell Road Toyotas lot! I get a call back from Tanner and he apologizes (very short and kind of rudely). He didn't care for my circumstance at all, he left me waiting on hold never to return to the call and was pretty dismissive.

I did have damage cause by a rubber tire that was on the road and got stuck in the grill. I was happy to pay for that but then 30 days later I get another invoices stating I had windshield damage which was absolutely not the case. When I called to ask for pictures of the proof they stated that they are not required to take photos. Of course! These are people financial lives that they are taking advantage of. Note that they are part of National Rental. Avoid them at all costs. They are crooks! These are people financial lives that they are taking advantage of. Note that they are part of National Rental. Made a reservation online a week ago, all set, call this week on Monday to confirm, no problem, they call me today, an hour before I am supposed to pick up the vehicle and they tell me they don't have a vehicle for me and they don't care about it.

Worst rental experience I’ve ever had — and I’m in my 60’s, and have rented a LOT of cars over the years. Avoid this place at all costs.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car at City Fountain Valley, CA did some tricks to claim when I rented. Some cracks and underneath cover popped out before. They charged me a claim. That was cheating. I learned the lesson when going to rent a car, I need to take photos around the car, as much details you can. Enterprise is the worst rental car I'd ever know. Never advise anyone to rent car at Enterprise Car Rental.
