Expedia Ordered to Reimburse Extra Tax Charged to Consumers

Charlene Tanisawa of Castro Valley, CA February 27, 2009

Charlene of Castro Valley CA (02/27/09)
Gave false information before booking flight. Said the flight would be non-transferrable, however if there was a change that I could get credit towards another flight. Turns out that it is non-refundable as well. The site itself is completely misleading. It shows a button to click titled OPTION and underneath it there is a button that says: Change/Cancel When you click on it, it brings another page that gives you instructions on how to change or cancel the flight.

Stress and HBP. I was irrate after being on the phone with two customer service reps. I kept on being placed on hold because they Anatassa had to contact her help desk before going over my contract. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and after 10 more minutes, I was finally transferred to Estelle ID# A60. She told me that the airline I choose had restrictions. None of this was told to me when I asked before booking the flight online.

Bought tickets, later cancelled, told I cannot get a refund, but Expedia issued me credit. 4 months later called to use the credit and was told I cannot use the credit and after putting me on hold for more than one hour I was told they can only issue me a refund minus over 600 in fees. I have not received the refunds and now they do not answer my emails and disconnect me every time I call these scamers.

I bought a business class ticket BKK-DEL and did not use the (fully refundable) return portion. I phoned and they send the ticket to them. I did. They said it would take 2-3 billing cycles to get the money. None came. The phone game started. After about 3 months, they told me to deal directly with the airlpine. I reminded them they had the ticket-the call was disconnected. A few months later, I called again and after speaking to about 4 different agent, the call was disconnected. Thye obviously have my money-this tactic is a great profit center for them!

I am out about 500 US.

Louise Moffa of N. Richland Hills, TX February 5, 2009

Louise of N. Richland Hills TX (02/05/09)
I purchased a trip to Manchester, England in November 2008 for June 2009. 1229.00 was debited from my bank on November 3rd. A few days ago I called as I couldn't find the itineary with the flight times. They told me part of the flight had been canceled. I asked why hadn't I been notified and reimbursed my money. They couldn't answer that question. They said it had been canceled on November 12th and an email had been sent out. I stated I didn't get an email, so could they resend the email. She told me they weren't allowed to resend the emails. I asked were they going to refund me all the money or put me on another flight. They put me on hold for 45 minutes and then hung up.

This happened 3 times. On the 4th time I told them not to put me on hold, as each time they did I was left hanging for 45 minutes. I asked to speak to a supervisor, who told me she would either sort out the refund or try another flight and she would email me with the details. 24 hours later I got 23 emails in a space of 3 minutes from expedia with the original itineray. Tonight I called them and asked about it and they again told me that the flight was canceled by the airline. They didn't answer my question why I had received 23 emails with the same flight. They told me they would work on a refund, and then told me I would get it in 2-3 billing periods. I said how would that help me to book a flight right now for my original dates, they said that wasn't their problem.

They have had my money since November 2008 and want me to wait another 2-3 months. I am angry, even more so after reading other people's experiences as I may not get my money back even in 2-3 months. How can they stay in business and keep doing the same thing to people and not get into some kind of trouble?

Karen Busch of San Jose, CA January 27, 2009

Karen of San Jose CA (01/27/09)
I bought one ticket on expedia for 489 and then 1 minute later the same ticket on aa.com and they charged me 200 more. This would be fine except when I bought the third ticket again the same itinerary same dates it went back down to 489. I called to get a credit for the middle ticket and they charged me 150 change fee. This is price gouging if I ever saw it.

I wanted only a travel voucher to spend on American like United does for me when their price goes lower but they did not honor their low price guarantee. Thank you.
I ended up paying 200 more for one of the three tickets I bought together.
