Expedia Ordered to Reimburse Extra Tax Charged to Consumers

Mark Buckley of Yardley, PA December 21, 2008

Mark of Yardley PA (12/21/08)
I purchased 2 tickets plus hotel and rental car from expedia. It was from Philadelphia to Charleston, SC. The airline was Air Tran, the hotel was the Marriott Courtyard of Charleston and Hertz was the car rental. The plane out of PHL was delayed into Atlanta and subsequently we missed the connection to Charleston. This was at 11:00 PM and there wasn't another flight until the next day at 1:15 pm. Air Tran gave us a reimbursement for the second leg of the flight and expedia wouldn't give us that credit.

On top of that I had to rent a car out of Atlanta and drive to Charleston (about 5 hours) Hertz charged me 399.00 for that. I finally got to charleston where I had to change cars because I had the rental in Charleston. The car was canceled by Hertz because I didn't get there until the next day. Even though it was a 2 day rental. No car. Expedia wouldn't give me a credit for that either. Believe me, I was on the phone at the airport for over an hour.

The story continues, the first day at the hotel was fine but the second day, the hotel lost it's boiler and there was no hot water. They credited the 1 night back to expedia. Expedia didn't give me that refund either. So in the BIG picture book DIRECTLY with each part of your trip and you are MUCH MUCH better off. Use expedia to get the overall price because ALL the parts guarantee the best rates! Just ask!

I received email alerts informing me that one or more of my connecting flights were canceled so I called Expedia's help line. The first time I called, it seemed that everything was taken care of, however, it was canceled again so I had to call again. From this point on, I have been dealing with Expedia for a week, every day calling and each time being on hold for 30 min to 1 hr 20 min!

Each time I was on hold, I would be disconnected and nothing had been done with fixing my return flight. The customer service reps could not provide me with an emergency number or even a supervisor number or way to get back in touch with the rep who was helping me. It has been extremely frustrating and has turned into a 4 hr ordeal so far in one day and over the course of the week about 7 hrs wasted.

Just time lost, however, if my flight does get canceled again, there will be a monetary loss.

We booked our flights to Kauai and paid for them back in May 2008. Expedia has changed our itinery 4 times since then. I've been kept on hold for as long as 40 minutes with no response. They claim they can't call back, that we have to call them. American Airlines claims that they can change the flight to a later time so our layover in Honolulu isn't almost 6 hours now, but Expedia doesn't want to change w/o charging another 200. dollars.

Well i purchased 4 tickets from San Diego to Seattle to spend Christmas there, however, we been in the process of buying a new home and suddenly closing of escrow happened to fall this month and lots of events take place during and while, therefore I figure I should not go on with the scheduled trip. I called customer service to either cancel or reschedule and I even bought the flight protection insurance thinking this would allow a better option in the event of this happening.

Well I ended up paying them, a whopping 130.00 per ticket plus the 60 dollar protection option. Do not fall from this insurance scam it covers nothing but them and unless you or somebody in your family gets either seriously ill or dies this insurance is useless.(read the small print, I fell for it and paid for my mistake) I had to pay 130.00 fee per ticket and that is whether you cancel or reschedule the flight? also the tickets as you already know are not refundable so Bye-bye 1144.00 DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!

Tickets 1144.00 Flight Protection insurance 60.00 Cancel or reschedule Flight 520.00 Airline Credit Only avail 624.00
