Homestead Hotel and Suites

Kandi of Brea CA (2/10/03):
I am statying at Homestead Hotel Studios and I bought a computer on 1/27/03 from CompAtlanta in Georgia. They shipped it UPS ground to be delivered on 2/3/03. I notified everyone in the office (Guests are allowed mail, fax and they provide data ports for internet service etc.) and received a call from Linda Larsen (front office) that my package had arrived.

By the time I got the message her shift was over and the person at the desk said she could not find anything for me. She said she would have Ms. Larsen call in the morning when she returned. I never received a call and she again had already gone home when I talked to "Veronica" the Assistant Manager who claims she spoke to Ms. Larsen who reports she had no package for me.

Per UPS my computer (3 boxes, 74 lbs total) was delivered on 2/3/03 and signed for by Ms. Larsen at 1:13PM. Ms. "Veronica" told me that "yes" they did receive a computer system but it did not have my name on it and it was the only shipment they received that day. She said UPS must have made a mistake. I again verified with UPS that the only shipment received by the HOmestead hotel that day was MINE - in 3 boxes and it was addressed to me.

Ms. Veronica claims that Ms. Larsen called the guest that they gave the packages to and he confirmed that the computer he recieved was his and they refused to give me this person's name or information claiming "confidentiality laws" of hotels prevent giving guests information out. They also would not go and check the labels of the boxes because the guest who has them does not wish to be disturbed with this problem.

UPS will not take a claim because the boxes were delivered and signed for by the office. The office claims they are not liable because they don't recall getting a package for me regardless of what they signed for with UPS. I paid for a computer system that is now being enjoyed by a person whose identity is being kept from me.

There has got to be something that I can do about this? Where is my computer what are my rights here? I have a signed tracking tracer by UPS with an image of the office girls signature and she verified it is hers.

It will cost me $ 965.00 to replace the computer system that is lost. (A monitor - keyboard - mouse and a pentium computer) In the meantime I have work that is piling up that I am unable to do so I have been put on "temporary" leave of absense (I work at home) until I have a computer I can work on.

Kandi's computer appears to have been stolen. She should therefore call the police, who should be able to get to the bottom of it.
