Con Ed

Curtis of Aurora, IL January 5, 2010

Add my complaint to the book of complaints...I still do not know why my electric bill is twice of anyone I have talked to for over two years now. The reason I don't know why is because Com Ed will not do anything to assist me in finding the problem. The worst part is they are very rude and on the phone. Dont dare ask to speak to a manager or you will get a voice mail promising a call back in 3 days that will never come. If you call back and wait on hold again and leave another message, you might get a call back within a week. Their answer "we are very busy."

I have sent emails...no response...I have called at least 5 times, no help and most of the time very rude depending on what person I get. I have had no help with this, and there is not competitors for com ed....they have a monopoly. So unless you by a windmill, your stuck. I am stuck with extremely high electic bills and no one will check my meter or assist me. The worst part...aside from all of my time and money wasted, Its not fair to treat people the way com ed does on the phone. I have never been hung up on until today. I have never been interupted and argueed with more than com ed. It over course is in com ed's best interest to keep my bills high and not assist me.

Joydeth of Bronx, NY December 21, 2009

I received a bill from Con Edison stating that I owe them 1237.97 for (October 2009). I could not understand why I had received such an expensive bill. I have been paying my bills on time and in the full amount. I called Con Edison to figure out the problem. My bill is typically about 150.00 per month. They agreed it was rather high and said they would come to read the meter again. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment in a building there is no way my light bill is over 1000 dollars. Its disgraceful to try and charge me again for months that I have been paying under theyre own estimates. They sent someone over and sent me a letter stating the meter was read correctly I believe otherwise either my meter was tampered with or broken. How can I resolve this situation? Thank you for your time and I would appreciate a resolution to this ridiculous balance on my electric account.

sergi of astoria, NY October 26, 2009

I received a bill from Con Edison stating that I owe them 3030.24 for electricity from March of 2008 until now (October 2009). I could not understand why I had received such an expensive bill. I have been paying my bills on time and in the full amount. I called Con Edison to figure out the problem. They stated that there had been an error with my meter. All along Con Edison’s computers were charging me a factor of 1 per kwh. All of a sudden, they state that me meter should be a factor of 10 per kwh. They stated that the error was theirs. I in turn told them since you admit that the error is yours, then how can I be responsible to make a 3030.24 payment for a mistake I did not make. They say that the factor should be a factor of 10 per kwh. How do we even know if this is correct? We have no explanation and no proof that this his the correct factor.

At this time my wife is currently out of work and one of my apartments is empty. I cannot afford to pay a bill that is 3030.24, but more importantly I do not think I have to pay this bill as it is not my error. I have been receiving my electric bills and paying them. Those bills stated the amount that I owed for the electric service and usage. I made my payments according to what Con Edison sent me. I do not think that I should have to pay for an error that they created. If the mistake had been mine, I would be responsible. How is it that the mistake is theirs and I am still responsible? If it had been any other business they would have accepted their loss and moved forward, but Con Edison thinks that they are exempt and are trying to make me pay for someone else’s mistake at their company. Why not ask the person who inputted my meter information incorrectly to make a 3030.24 payment??? They are the ones who made the error, not me. Thank you for your time and I would appreciate a resolution to this ridiculous balance on my electric account.

since Jan. 2009 our house has been holding up one of their utility poles, to the point it keeps getting worse and now damage is being done to the side of our house. ConEd keeps coming to "look" at it but won't fix the problem. ConEd keeps stating they will get it fixed, but 9 months later, we have only gotten put off and problem has worsened. Big company with no competition... needs a fire lit under their butts. Even one of their own employees says he sees them blowing people off all the time.

Barbara of Yonkers, NY September 28, 2009

This is conspiracy, and this attorney Stephen L. should get suspended from the Bar Association for denying my claim. I have been so stressed out by all this, I've been under the doctors care, and my work has suffered because of the damages that Con Edison has caused to my computer and external hard drives. It has slowed my work down and deleted my video files. I'm an Investigative Reporter.

Con Edison discovered a leaking gas line to my home. When excavating the street to access the gas main they damaged my water service because the company they used marked the underground utilities incorrectly. Con Edison's on site supervisor admitted on more than one occasion that the water service was damaged by there work.

Carol of New York, NY August 27, 2009

recent bill was 10 times what it should have been. I was told that the meter was read and I should unplug everything in the apartment and then read the meter. They will not send anyone to verify that the meter is hooked up to only my apartment. THis s not the first time that we have been overcharged by Con Ed.

judith of white Plains, NY August 18, 2009

Was out of town for 3 weeks in June of this year - (20 days)...apartment was locked up and everything turned off, except the fridge, which I turned way down. No one was in there. My Con Ed bill for June was higher than for May ((95.07).

In addition, when i called to complain they said they would send someone out to check the meter - at an additional charge of 19.00. I said ok - cause I knew I was right. They told me the reading was correct. I know it was not. I have no recourse.

aharon of brooklyn, NY August 7, 2009

after living on my own for many years, i recently moved into a small two br apt. after having my electricity turned off a couple time because our landlord hadnt paid off a 3000 dollar bill, i finally transferred the bill to my name. on average in the past monthly i would pay about 80 bucks during the summer. my first bill was for 15 days and the ammount was 115.00 i was shocked and i right away called them up.

we finally realized that they were billing me for the wrong meter. when the problem was finally ammended i received a 2nd bill for 30 days for a total of 320.00!! im not sure whats going on but they wont let me talk to a supervisor and wont tell me anything about whats going on. i know a little biut about electricity and there absolutely no way that im using as much elctricty as they say i am. please help me!
