    I don’t know why the ratings are so low. I love Duke Energy and have never had an issue with service, pricing or billing. I guess the reviewers have never done business with AEP.

    Today I woke up to a disaster with a flooded basement. Called the plumber but he was unable to do what he needed to do because my 1930’s home didn’t have a main breaker to shut power to the home meaning he would be standing in water while he worked with electricity live. So I had to call Duke to shut my power off. I had an active water leak happening. Dreading my call and panicking that I had so much to coordinate on a Friday- plumber, power and restoration I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service I received from 4 different CSRs on my 2 calls. Each of them were spectacular! They listened, had kind empathetic words, and went out of their ways to help me through everything!

    They scheduled someone to come to my home so quickly! It was Pierre. Another employee that was professional and kind! He not only shut the power off, but went ahead and put in a work order to make sure power was restored later that day! We talked about my husband’s health and he was really genuine in his listening.

    I haven’t called Duke customer service in many many years. I can tell you it was by far the best customer service I’ve had with Duke ever! And this is on the heals of major storms where all the agents are on mandatory OT (so I learned on one of the calls). You would never know that from the way they handled my calls. OUTSTANDING!! All 5 employees I interacted with were truly amazing. I have lead global call centers for over 30 years- I understand the importance of great customer service. I would be proud to work with any of these individuals. Nice job Duke Energy!! You’re training the right culture.

      I just wanted to thank the crews that worked on Cotton Rd in Sanford NC on Monday night at 6:17 pm. They had a big crew working all night and by 6:30 am we had power. Awesome job guys!! One really doesn't realize how important power is until we lose it, these people put their lives on the line every day. Again thank you so much!

      I work in property maintenance in NC, the company shut offed the power to the wrong unit and I had to have a tech spend half a day because they wouldn't send a tech out to fix their mistake. If they didn't have a monopoly in the area I would suggest my company to switch immediately, they cost my company money and also caused an AC failure. The resident was without power for 2 days in high heat.

      At the beginning of April, I received a payment into my account that read as "credit due" to me from Duke Energy. This automatically paid my March bill, and at the end of April, I received my statement for the month, which stated that I owed $0.00 and had money on my account that was "credit, do not pay". However, this month (May), my statement was over $600, which was this month's electric bill and the credit amount deposited in April that had been used on my previous bills, which I apparently now owe. I called to dispute this charge as I had not received any emails regarding any billing mistakes, and I was under the impression that those bills were taken care of with the credit.

      The representative then informed me after a brief investigation that I did in fact owe this amount because the "credit" was actually a payment which had "accidentally been applied" to my account instead of an account with a similar number. As a struggling college student who splits utilities with roommates, I do not have this sum of money available and was told that I will have to pay it. I was given a payment plan which splits the amount into two payments, which will be added onto my July and August bills.

      Besides this menial gesture, the lack of responsibility taken by Duke Energy in this ordeal is shocking, I received no emails and was only able to get an answer about what had happened after an hour on the phone and two separate representatives and was offered no support for resolving this issue beyond the payment plan. This kind of negligence is appalling, considering it took over 2 months for them to realize the mistake, and I was not notified that it was a mistake, just charged for the bills I thought were already taken care of.

      Worst energy company on the Southeast Coast! They have been discriminating against home-bound elderly and disabled people for months and lie and say they fixed the issue. Duke Energy is an ableist trash of a company, and the monopoly needs to be broken up ASAP!

      Horrible company. Rude, rude rude. Waste time and aren't helpful. Wish I could give them zero stars. Selling and moving. My next homestead will be 100% off-grid solar. I'd suggest others do the same as these corporations view us no better than bugs.

      Their Customer Service is so hit and miss, occasionally their people are helpful but quite frequently though are useless at providing help. Their phone system is so dysfunctional, I just hung up after sitting on hold for 55 minutes waiting for an associate! Why an earth don’t they have a callback system?! Total waste of customer's time. On top of that, their budget billing system is awful, completely underestimated my Bill, and then slammed us with a huge end of year additional bill. Not to mention electric bills just keep skyrocketing. Wish there was another option!!

      What a load of BS this company feeds their customers. Requested a TOU rating for my meter 2 yrs ago before moving to this state, and they never gave it to us. Called them today and requested it again and was told they have to approve it. Why? Every electric company in the West never had to do something so stupid! You called and they would give it to you. Not Duke, though, what crooked business practices are they handing to their customers? Why would anyone wanting to save on their bill not want the option to go with TOU? Customer service said according to our current bills, we would only save $1? That seems like a complete lie to me. My response back was: Well, if I had TOU, I would shift my heavy electric usage to off-peak times! Stupid woman said: Fair enough. Hate this crooked company to the core!!!

      I was paying through the autopayment option for 7 years with Duke Energy in Polk County, FL. Then my autopay was missed once, and they disconnected me from autopay for one year. They just said on the phone, “that’s how it works.” So now I have to pay manually every month. It feels like they’re punishing me.

      Duke's subcontractors are absolute crap. They have NO consideration for private property and have no consideration for anyone other than themselves. I have been blocked in my property for two days and the only answer I get is "it's gonna take a while". Tree trimmers, line guys, same answer. They are extremely disrespectful and aloof. I'm so tired of having to deal with their crap.

      I was on a plane that divided your payments equally monthly. It is supposed to keep you from having a huge bill at the end of your service. They changed and increased my bill 4 times in 8 months. When I moved they sent a huge 350 excess bill. They refuse to make payment arrangements though asked multiple times and said nope they do not do payments. They simply put it on your credit.

      All I wanted was to clarify why I got double billed for service that I had already paid for on time, and the CSA was so Obtuse. She could not understand what I was talking about...it's bad enough that the bills are overpriced, now they try to double bill you.

      My electric bill is over $6,000 and Duke Energy want explain to me why my bill is so high, and will not work with me on installments to bring it current! And when they did call themselves putting me on an installment, it was so high that I couldn't pay it! They are evil and sneaky! I wish I could get service through someone else. I'm considering going to the news about this situation.

      The rebate card that Duke Energy gives you ($500) after you spend $7000 is a joke. You can't use it for bills or deposit it to your bank. You can only use it for purchases made at the grocery store or retail and each time I have tried to use it, I get denied. Makes me feel like this is a bait and switch.

      Duke Power is ridiculous!! They price-gouge people and go up whenever they want. Power bills have gotten to the point people can’t afford them. They are a monopoly and don’t care about their customers!!! I can definitely tell they either pay for these reviews and delete the ones that done benefit them!! Something needs to be done about this company!

      I would love to give negative stars but there is no option. Ever since Duke Energy took over Progress Energy in Wake County we have had horrible service! Every year more outages than needed and many on non-weather event days. The bill has gone steadily up all this year which makes no sense since we have had 17 outages, all on non-weather events, each of which has been just enough of a blip to screw up all equipment in house, mess up the settings for my work area, and my disabled wife's electric, hospital bed!

      I have spoken with technicians, local managers, my neighbor has complained as well, and Duke never resolves the negative trend of harming customers they create! Yes, I stated harm because as a person who works from home full time, and who works full time unpaid as a full time caregiver for wife who has dementia, I DO NOT have a moment to rest or recoup, so I DEFINITELY DO NOT have time for constant power blips and equipment resets and sometimes replacements! This a stressful situation Duke Energy creates and does not resolve!

      If I could give negative stars I would. Duke Energy sucks so bad, they are a monopoly that has taken over our region. My bills vary in pricing despite efforts to keep energy usage and costs low. My bill was more than doubled this month with no changes in my energy usage. Their support is also awful. They offer bill support but it's from local agencies, why not support your own customers Duke Energy since these are your prices? Energy should not be monopolized. F Duke Energy!

      OVERPRICED AND STILL ASK YOU TO DONATE! I'm walking around my house like I'm in a blizzard because electric is too damn expensive. Then asking you to lower your temp to the most comfortable temp when my house stays anywhere from 58-68 degrees everyday during winter to save on my bill, which is still doesn't! This company just got approved to raise rates?!?! Trash company!
