I looked around, did some research, looked at the reviews from the Better Business Bureau and decided to have a conversation with Optima Tax Relief and see what information they could provide. There was no cost to it and there was no pressure. The gentleman laid out to me what the situation was and what they could potentially do for me. They made no promises and I made a decision to give it a try.
They requested some documentation from me, which I provided. They've called me a couple of times to update me on the status of where their process is, what they've done for me so far, and what's been going on. They've reached out to me many more times than I've reached out to them. Their reach outs to me have been through their portal, where they've requested information. When I've supplied that information, they've in turn reached back out to me and told me what the outcome of that information supply has been. They also told me that as we move along through the process, there will be additional costs, and when we reach that point, I have the decision to either stop or go forward.
So far, as we've been to this point in the process, they've delivered on everything that they said they were going to do. We haven't received any resolution yet, but we're still midway through the process. Going up against the IRS is a challenge anyhow. At my age and status in life, I've been a law-abiding, tax-paying citizen and last thing I want to do is piss off the IRS. Having somebody else get in front of that for me and try and handle that for me has been somewhat of a relief for me. They've helped me with the issues that the IRS is trying to shove upon me. They've applied a team approach to that. It's not just me against the IRS now. I feel I have true professional experience support to help me with the IRS.
I've been very happy with Optima and with the communication with them. So far, what I've had to pay for the services I've received has been very fair. I'd be paying money to the IRS anyway and they wouldn't care. In fact, if I croaked, that'd be fine with them. They just seize my property or do whatever they do. But with Optima, I have seen the process and they are doing their best to help me out. It's been money well-spent. Everything's been positive and the people have been great. I would recommend them.

I received nothing but help from Optima Tax Relief, and I appreciate that. It was a good service. I had a heart attack a while back, and I missed a couple years afterwards and they helped me get caught up. My wife was doing it, but she died in the process. So, it fell on me. I needed help. So, I called out to them. I took it up around March of last year. They were wonderful. When I first called them, I kept getting on to Philippines, and that was frustrating. When I finally got the team that was working on my file, they were top-notch. It was just getting to them was the frustrating part. They knew my wife passed away. They would continue to ask for her on the phone and ask for a permission from her to talk to me, and that was frustrating. I was still in grieving, and it bugged me that I needed to get ahold of them, and I had to go through the Philippines and talk to various people before they finally got me through them.
I did send a couple of emails and got a good response from that. They did a good job, and they're still doing a good job. I'm thankful that they'd be on this side of the whole thing because on the other side, it was frustrating because I didn't know what to do or how to do it. They have a portal that I log into. I go online, log in, and I get documents and updates.

My wife was very sick. She had a liver transplant and lung cancer, and I hadn't paid my taxes in four years. I saw Optima Tax Relief advertised on TV. and they sounded more interesting than other tax people, so I signed up with them for help. They're all very nice, friendly, and very helpful. The first guy I talked to was named Steve. He was in California and he was explaining that it could take up to six months for the four years of my taxes to get taken care of. I started it in April, so I'm only about two months in.
Initially, I thought once I set up this program, IRS wouldn't be taking some money out of my retirement check, and they did the 1st of June. They took out 200 and some dollars. So far, Optima keeps asking for documents and I fax that to them. Otherwise, I really haven't heard anything and I don't think we're missing each other. I use my daughter's email and she checks it every day, that was why we found out that they needed more tax forms. To anyone thinking of using Optima, be ready for them to request a lot of forms and things, and that it takes about six or seven months, depending on how far back their taxes are.

I initially did a consultation with Optima Tax Relief. They get your information, what your concerns are, and what you feel like you're facing into. Then they get back and say, “Well, we'll look into it. We'll work out a plan and work out the payment for the plan, and then we'll get on it.” It's a hard thing to give out your information to people. As of right now, I'm paying Optima to perform the tasks that I need to have fixed. I am hopeful that I can be confident that it can be resolved in my favor.
They have requested some more information from me, and it's been about a month since they needed more information. So, I sent it to them, and I haven't heard anything from them since. I know there are so many people reaching out to these kinds of people right now because it's hard out here. Everything's expensive now, and nobody can afford to pay. So, I'm not disgruntled that Optima is not more forthcoming with information. Aside from all that, they're very knowledgeable. Any question that you ask, it takes time, but they do get back to you.

Ms. Tamicah ** has been exceptionally professional, knowledgeable, patient, and effective throughout my experience. She is the only person I have dealt with over the past year who has communicated clearly, understood my concerns, explained the process thoroughly, and produced meaningful results. After paying nearly $29,000, my overall experience with Optima has been extremely frustrating. For months, I felt passed from department to department with little progress, limited accountability, and very little clear communication. I was frequently placed on hold, promised return calls that did not happen, and left feeling as though I was simply a number in the system rather than a client whose case mattered.
Much of my frustration came from communication breakdowns and being repeatedly told that nothing could be done, without receiving clear explanations or solutions. The experience has been discouraging and, at times, deeply stressful. That said, Ms. ** has been the exception. She made me feel heard, respected, and reassured. She is the reason I have been able to maintain patience through this process. In my opinion, she represents the very best of your company and should be recognized as one of your finest employees. Beware of automated billing traps. I signed up and cancelled my services on the exact same day (June 29). Despite my immediate cancellation, they processed an unauthorized $495 charge on my card anyway. I had to file a formal dispute with Capital One to get my money back. Even worse, their systems completely ignored my cancellation—they are still sending me automated alerts claiming they are "working my case" and offering a resolution for a contract I terminated on day one. Utterly dishonest business practices.

Hi this is Javier **. I’m a client for Optima tax relief. I had some unfilled tax returns so I so ended up hiring Optima tax relief in Santa Ana California. The employers there are very unprofessional tax team. I believe from the experience I’m having right now this people are not worth interested in helping resolve your tax issue. First they contacted me saying that they had me in compliance with the IRS but the next week I’m getting letters from the IRS that I have to respond to a C.P letter from the IRS within couple days. Optima tax relief promised services but they do not keep their word.
I provided everything they requested forms / documents everything that they needed but still their level of communication is very unprofessional tax team. The team that was working on my case were so unprofessional and lack of communication. Are they did where cause me a lot of stress and I even ended up in the hospital couple time due to them not doing their so called Job. I don’t recommend them. When you call there no answers or there’s no call backs from them at all. Do not be a victim like me that pretty much feels like I got scam. Do not fall for the advertisement on the radios or on the internet. I highly Don’t recommend this guys Optima tax relief 100%.

Optima Tax Relief is nothing but talk!!! Initially, I was overwhelmed with frequent telephone calls. I made all of my payments under the assumption that they would negotiate with the IRS to settle my tax debt for a reduced amount (as per the many TC advertisements). I have been working with them since October 2025, and today I learned that their only action was to negotiate my monthly payments to the IRS for $600.00 per month. They did nothing to reduce the overall amount owed. All they advise is that "this is the best resolution".
I have not received any documentation from them outlining the amount they were attempting to reduce my tax debt to. I am concerned about the legitimacy of Optima Tax Relief's services. They may assure you that they will do everything possible to resolve the outstanding amount; however, you are often transferred from one representative to another, and little progress is made. I could have arranged a payment plan independently without incurring the extra expenses associated with Optima.

Yesterday, I had a conversation with Julia ** to outline the next steps for filing my brother Tommy **'s tax returns. Last year, Tommy engaged the services of Optima, but unfortunately, no progress has been made on his case. I read about Optima's history and that they were helping people solve their problems. I did a consultation with them and their rep was very nice. She helped me in so many ways. She told me how they solve people's problems, that I shouldn't be worried, and how they'd take care of me. And eventually, I was so happy about what they did for me. I worked with a professional named Jeff and in two to three weeks, he got a response to me. Aside from that, I was comfortable with the price I paid for the service.

Optima Tax Relief’s advertising was a deciding factor for me in choosing them. Supposedly, they filed my income taxes for the last four years, and that went okay. But they came back and by the time it was all done with the IRS, I owed them over $85,000 with the penalties and taxes. They stopped them from sending me harassing letters so that part worked. But my last experience with Optima is the reason I decided to move to a different company. They charge a high fee of $12,000 for the service. I asked for a refund because they didn’t accomplish everything they told me they were going to do. My taxes were supposed to be non-collectible, which was what the IRS said, because my financial situation is dire. Instead, the IRS came back and said they were going to put a lien on my house for five years. They also said that if my situation changes, I would still have to pay my back taxes. They did stop some of the interest and penalties.
I later switched to a different firm, El Dorado Taxes, and they just started working on my case. They’re going to try to stop the attachment to my house and also work on stopping penalties and late fees. There’s also an IRS form related to the COVID years that they can fill out. I tried looking at it, but I can’t do it. If filed correctly, it could lead to penalties and interest being forgiven, which could be a good 40 grand. I asked Optima if they would handle that, but they said it’s not part of their services. I’m dissatisfied with them and people should look somewhere else.

They talk a good game. Ultimately they charged me greater than $800/month for 5 months and did nothing. Expected me to do all the input of paperwork despite being told that they could help me find missing documents. When I asked for a refund they basically pushed it to another department and didn't offer any refund. I definitely would not recommend.

I was trying to get my taxes back up to where I could get them paid down some. I went with the services of Optima Tax Relief, and the initial consultation was great. They gave me all the information I needed. But I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I need to do to finish up. I'm waiting on the paperwork and the phone call from them. They could do better in making a contact for the next process. Given the quality of service I received, the cost could have been better as well. I’d tell others to use them but also to shop around.

I have been dealing with Optima since the spring of 2019. My tax situation was in collections, and I reached out to them. Someone called me back right away and got me signed in. I signed up and then they sent me the power of attorney and all the paperwork I needed to sign. I got my back taxes filed. They worked out a payment plan for me to pay my taxes for the years that I owed for. A
I recently had to do another resolution plan with Optima back in April. I paid them $2,400 to get that started. Since then, my employment has changed because I was no longer really working as a W-2 employee as of April 2025. I started working as an independent contractor. I submitted my W-2 for my other job and my 1099. Optima needed me to do a profit and loss, which I still need to do. But I thought they were still gonna at least file my 2025 and my 2024 taxes, because the 2024 taxes were still not filed.
I signed up for a monthly protection plan. I've been doing that with Optima ever since 2020 for them to file my taxes for me for free, and for them to represent me as far as with any audits or anything that I have with the IRS. Optima didn't send me anything, like a power of attorney. I don't know if they're handling my tax situation for me. I am continuing to pay the IRS what I'm owing, but it's just a different experience this go-around, even though I paid them $2,400 in April.
I have good communication with the reps, but it's just different this time than when I initially signed on and got with Optima. I'm expecting that they were going to have me turn in all of my tax liability information. I thought they were gonna be handling this for me, and they didn't do that. They didn't do a power of attorney this time, so I feel like I'm on my own. They haven't worked out any kind of payment plan. Initially, if you only have just a couple of years or just some initial back taxes that they need to help you with, Optima is good. But anything after that, they can get a little sloppy.
